BORN IN GHANA
Blueyyyyy I heard my mum yell my name, Yes, mum I retorted. Come and accompany me to the market. We need to get foodstuffs. Okay mum, I heard myself say. I woke up from the shores of slumber as I slipped my foot in a slipper. I closed the door behind me as I slipped out of my room.

I’m Bluey. I was born in Ghana and raised by African parents. Though I’m a Ghanaian, I speak like I’m from Britain. I have a lot of dreams and aspirations but my fantasies over-ride them all.

As if strucked by lightening, I descended down from memory lane. Bluey, I heard my mom call for the second time. What’s keeping you so long in the room?? I’m looking for my pouch bag I lied. Hurry up and lets set off before the dawn of the new day breaks out.
Mum jerked the car as I sat at the front busily fidgeting on my phone. I had a text from my first crush and I was giggling. What’s so amusing to you in the early hours of the morning Bluey?? She asked. It’s nothing ma I said. She made a quick turn towards the traffic light as we made our way towards the overpass. Soon we had reached the market. Madam, come and buy from us a woman said as I shook my head to her. We walked through the busy market towards a fishmonger who had gathered her wares beautifully. Mum had an eye for beautiful things so we stood and a conversation brewed. How much is the fish?? my mother enquired. It’s 30cedis ma. Is it the last price?? Can’t you reduce it for me?? Oh no ma. Now things are quite expensive if I reduce it for you I will run at a loss. She said. Okay Thank you leaving her behind to look for another fishmonger.
Good morning ma. We greeted her. How much are your fish?? Its 18cedis. Okay but I have 15cedis will you take it?? My mom asked. Please add a cedi to it she begged. Okay sure as my mum reached out for her pouch and gave her a twenty cedi note. Thank you mum said.
We headed towards the vegetable sellers. They were eager to see us. Some had not made any sales yet. How much is the carrot?? 5cedis and 12cedis . Okay so how much will I get for the 12cedis ?? Three please. Okay, then give me 6 carrots. Okay sure as she took a black polythene and placed the carrots in it as she handed it over to me. Thanks I murmured. I looked over to my mom as she took the change from her and headed towards the Bank.
Bluey, I’m heading to the Bank but I will leave you at Aunty Reece’s place. Okay mum I retorted. Soon we were at Aunty Reece’s shop. Good afternoon Aunty Reece. How are you my beautiful darling?? I’m fine as I found a seat and sat down cheerfully.
Aunty Reece and mom talked for some time as I sat glued to my phone. Bluey, I will be back in a jiffy. Don’t go anywhere as she said with a stern look in her eyes and I knew what that meant. Bye mum I waved. Bye Darling, she said.
