Fading Light
Club lights flicked continously as the music from the speakers loudened. More men approached the dance pole where the party seemed to be. You could see from their grins and nods that they aprooved the perfomance. One extended gratitude by throwing a few notes in. That was motivation enough for Bosa, the perfomer as she twirled her body sexily around the pole to the satisfaction of the obviously sexually hungry men. The club was frequented by people from all walks of life, both men and women of different ages. It was not even a suprise that the most drooling men were married as they proudly wore their wedding bands. From afar,Rocky, the Midnight Mirage club owner watched slowly sipping his drink. The frustration on his face built up with each sip he took. He emptied his glass and then swaggered over to the pole dance and interruptedly grabbed Bosa away. The men echoed in confusion at their just interrupted fun. The fun that they paid for but no one dared to loudly question Rocky. They just shrugged it off and moved on to the rest of the club's activities. As Rocky dragged Bosa away from the pole, the music continued to pulsate through the club, but the atmosphere had shifted. The men who had been entranced by Bosa's performance now dispersed, their faces a mix of disappointment and annoyance. Some of them shot Rocky a resentful glance, but none dared to confront him. The club owner's reputation for being ruthless and merciless was well-known, and no one wanted to cross him.
Earlier that day...(Bosa's house)
Therisanyo anxiously paced back and forth across the room holding her cellphone. It was early February and like many other students who had completed their Botswana General Certificate for Secondary Education, Terry was waiting for her results. The uncertainity and hopelessness on her face was rather apparent. She could already hear Aunt Dinky's loud screams in her head. Having been abandoned by her mother when she was just five and never knowing who her father is, Therisanyo was raised up by her aunt and it was not an easy upbringing at all.
"What if I have failed Bosa?" Therisanyo anxiously glanced at her friend who seemed rather unbothered by whatever panic attack Therisanyo seemed to be having.
Bosa and Therisanyo were very close friends who were brought together by their unfortunate life circumstance. However, the saying that birds the same feathers flock together was not necessarily applicable to them. The two were total opposites and that is probably why they had a close-knit relationship.
"I think you should relax a little bit.Failing form five is not the end of the world my dear.Look at me now." Bosa replied flaunting her blonde weave in Therisanyo's face.
Then an sms reported on her phone. Bosa quickly checked it and it was the much anticipated results. She quickly scanned through the E's and F's and glanced at Therisanyo, feeling rather sorry. Therisanyo immediately read Bosa's facial expressions and grabbed the phone from her.
"Ok,this is nothing.Don't stress yourself about the failure. Now you should come and work with us." Bosa said looking at the time. Soon she had to get ready to go to the club for her shift.
Therisanyo's world came crumbling down. Her heart sank. It was the worst day of her life, much worse than the day she realised that no one actually ever loved her.
Therisanyo looked at Bosa who at the exact moment looked as though her life was perfect and in order. Bosa did not lack anything. She lived in a moden house in the surbubs of Block 6 with her boyfriend,Rocky. Bosa had a job that for the longest now was trying to recruit Therisanyo into it. This seemed like a perfect opportunity to hit the last nail into the coffin because Therisanyo's dreams were dead if she ever had any.
