Chapter 1: The Dark Encounter
The relentless downpour deepened the darkness of the night. Ayla’s lungs burned, her chest heaving as the echo of her soaked boots shattered the silence of the alleyway. Clutched tightly in her trembling hand was a small metallic USB drive—a device containing enough dark secrets to bring down the city's most formidable mafia empire. Her hair was drenched, and a fresh streak of blood stained her left sleeve.
"Catch her! Don't let her escape with that drive!" heavy, sinister voices roared from behind.
A muted crack echoed from a silenced pistol. A bullet grazed the brick wall inches from her head, showering her face with fragments of stone. Without daring to look back, Ayla pushed her legs to their absolute limit. She knew the stakes all too well: if they caught her tonight, her body would be floating near the docks by dawn.
At the far end of the alley stood a sleek, pitch-black sedan with heavily tinted windows. Inside sat Zaviyar, exhaling a thick plume of cigar smoke into the dim cabin as he quietly observed the storm outside. He had spent months trying to distance himself from the brutal underworld, craving a quiet, ordinary life. But fate clearly had other plans.
Suddenly, the passenger door flew open. Before Zaviyar could react, an injured, rain-soaked girl lunged into his front seat, bringing with her the freezing night air and the sharp scent of gunpowder.
"Drive! Now! Or we’re both dead!" Ayla gasped, her eyes blazing with a mixture of raw terror and stubborn defiance.
Zaviyar turned his head slowly, fixing his dark, cold, and utterly indifferent gaze upon the intruder. He showed neither fear nor surprise. Extinguishing his cigar in the ashtray, a faint, dangerous smirk touched his lips at her desperate command. Before he could utter a word, the piercing headlights of two black SUVs cut through the gloom, illuminating the sedan as automatic gunfire erupted down the alley.
Zaviyar glanced into the rearview mirror, instantly recognizing the hitmen. A long-dormant flame sparked deep within his eyes. The dark past he had been desperately trying to leave behind had just thrown itself into his passenger seat.
With a swift flick of his wrist, he slammed the car into gear, gripped the leather steering wheel tight, and floored the accelerator. The tires shrieked against the wet pavement as the sedan surged forward, vanishing into the shadows of the night.
