Chapter 16 - New sides of Her

Nancy POV

I never knew that Kathie had a painful past. I mean , I know that she's adopted and live with her dad's since then. But, she never tell us her true family before.

And since we were young and became best friends, Kathie acts so cheerful with us.

But now I see why sometimes she treat other people like a cold queen, or why there is sadness in her eyes.

Kathie is smart and independent. She always care on both of us Peter.

She has no doubts and trust us with her secrets.

But the thing is, she's the missing future Successor of Jang!!.

No. perhaps, her true family wants her dead to have the position. And now I understand why she kept this secrets against us for a long time.

Kathie knew. And she wants US safe.

She truly is an Angel.

Maybe I should tell this to my Dad, he said that him and Jang are pretty close. So maybe he can help Kathie.

I must confirm things first , that dad is not on the side of kathies enemy.

After Kathies confession, me and Peter decided to go with her on the orphanage.

We like to somehow be with her.

Kathie said that she inherit ability, but I doubt that it's enough to save her from trouble, so we wanted to protect her.

" What are you thinking?" Peter said as he finished the story telling for the children.

We're now here under the tree, taking some rest from the tiresome activity we had.

This children seems so happy to have us. And also Kathie, I never saw her laugh like that. It's genuine, and beautiful.

We witness her cry while telling us her story, so it's a good twist to see her smiling and laughing with us and this children.

I just want to see her smiling always.

" Nothing, I just." I respond to Peter as I look to the other child on the field.

"Kathie seems very sad and in pain when she tell us her story awhile ago, and now, I saw her laugh. Shes our best friend Peter and I want her happy and not in pain". I continue as I look at Peter.

"She had us Nance, will take her away from pain as much as we can, I want her happy also" Peter answer and he look at the sky.

" How come we never been with her in this Orphanage?" Peter asked as he lightly chuckle.

" Because you said your not good with kids Peter, and they're just nuisance" I answered as I lightly shake my head.

"Right" Peter answered as he agreed and chuckle.

The children requested for the two to tell them more story, as they continue and let the time pass by.

The two best friends decided to call it a day, as the children came inside the house to do there daily task.

Ms. Malorie take the children and assist them, as Nancy and Peter look for Kathie.

"Where is Kathie?" Peter asked to Malorie as they enter inside.

"Oh I forgot, she said she'll visit her old friend, and she won't take awhile, but I don't know why she's not here though it's been an hour since she left" Malorie answered as shes thinking for the reason.

While both Nancy and Peter looked at each other

" Well, could you come to her then, I need to do some task for the kids, I'll just give you this" Malorie said as she handed a paper.

Nancy open the paper as she look at it.

"Nice, a map" Nancy said

"Better we find Kathie then, before midnight" Peter joked as he tap Nancy's shoulder.

"You got this guys, go to Kathie, We'll just wait for you here" Malorie said as they nodded and headed to the map direction.

Peter and Nancy struggle to locate Kathie, as the place are covered with trees and high grasses, it's like a forest that you might get lost without a map. It's a right thing that they have one.

They pass through a lake and shrubs as they reach the map direction of where Kathie might be.

Peter seems having a hard time from their little adventure as he take the rest and sitted, while Nancy continue and saw Kathie near a grave stone.

Nancy smiled and walk near her, as she stop midway and hear laughter, and notice Kathie having a conversation.

"Who are you talking with?" Nancy asked as Kathie turn to the voice and saw her best friend.

"Nancy!,  Sorry I lost track of time, and I didn't answer your call, how'd you come here?" Kathie respond as Nancy saw a another girl with Kathie.

"We've been searching for you, Malorie gave us this map to find you, the children are now taking their time for the other task" Nancy said.

"Haha, Finally, did you see Kathie? Nance" said Peter that are now having a hard time to breath as it run toward them.

"Oh, who's this?" Peter added as he fix himself to make a good impression to a beauty infront of him.

"Im Sam" Sam answered for Kathie.

"Ah Yes, this is Sam, Sam this is my Best friends, Peter And Nancy" Kathie said and pointed them.

"Hi Sam, you can call me Pet, or 'yours' cause I'm willing to be your future lover" Peter said as he reach his hand for a hand shake.

"Woah there, hold your horses" Kathie joked at Peter as they giggle and Sam shake hands with Peter.

"Ok Peter, nice meeting you too, but I doubt that happen I already set my eyes with someone" Sam said as she Chuckle and look at Kathie.

"Oh, is that it, I can change that" Peter said with confidence and stare at Sam

"Again, I doubt" Sam repeated.

all of them laugh.

"Nice try Peter" Nancy teased as Peter left them and walk to the orphanage direction.

"Don't mind him, his offer is quite undeclinable for other, that's why he seems disappointed that his charm didn't work on you" Kathie said as she sit infront if the gravestone.

" Sam right?, So your Kathies Old friend?, I never thought Kathie had other friend" Nancy asked as she shake hands with Sam.

"Ahm, No. I'm not that old friend your referring of, but him" Sam said as she pointed the grave stone and Nancy look at it.

"Angelo?" Nancy said

"Yeah, his my old friend at the orphanage , he died from the fire " Kathie said as she stand after she left a prayer to her old friend.

Nancy just got silent, she realized that she really never ask about Kathie before she feel like she really don't know things about Kathie.

"I see" Nancy said "then Sam Is?" Nancy asked.

"Oh right, Sam is a friend , we just meet recently, remember the dinner from Peterson? Dad's business partner?, She's their daughter" Kathie answered and smile.

"Ok, ah, yeah. we have to come back to the orphanage before midnight Ms. Malorie said it's hard to come back if the sun is set" Nancy said as she smile and take Kathies hand.

"But how about Sam?" Kathie asked.

"I'll come with you" Sam answered as she walk alongside Kathie and look to Nancys hand holding Kathie.

Kathie just nodded and they both walk toward the orphanage.

Nancy felt uncomfortable toward Sam though she didn't know why.

She feel insecure when she saw Kathie laughing with Sam.

Maybe I'm jealous? Nancy asked unsure from her feelings.

Well whatever, she thought.

"They're here!, Finally." Peter welcome and walk to them as Kathie, Nancy, and Sam reach the orphanage.

"Sam?" Malorie said

"Hi, Malorie" Sam answered.

"Oh it's you, you didn't said you'll visit" malorie said and hug Sam.

"I just visit Angelo, and parked on another area, it shouldn't take a while but I meet Kathie in place so, that is why" Sam answered.

Malorie just nodded as all of them walk to the room where the children are.

They said there goodbye as they promised to visit again.

They're now at the door of the orphanage.

"Thank you for the time Kathie, and to your friends. Come visit again anytime" Malorie said

" No it's our pleasure Malorie,we had a great time" Kathie said

"Sure is, Kathie even laugh" Nancy answer

"That's true" Peter agreed

"I'll bring some gifts for another time that I'll visit" Sam said

Malorie smile sweetly from what she heard .

"Thank you" Malorie said and gave them last hug.

"Call me if you need anything, I'll come here fast to help" Kathie said as they pull back from the hug.

"Yeah I will" Malorie responded

And all of them said there departing words towards each other as they drove home after the eventful day they had.

"Dad!, I'm home " Nancy enter their mansion as they're maid welcome her.

" Honey!, Oh, you seemed happy" kathies mother said as she walk down from the stairs.

" I am mom" Nancy answer. "Wheres Dad?"

" He's, at his study, you can come at there now his taking a break" her mom answered as she walk to the kitchen.

Nancy nodded, and walk to her father.

She knocked " Dad,can we talk?" Nancy asked.

"Come in" he answer.

Nancy open the door as she take a sit near her father table, her father is sipping a tea for a break.

"What you wanna talk my dear daughter" he started.

"Dad, I just want to ask about Jang , you said your close with them, who are you working with?" Nancy asked in a serious tone.

" Why'd you ask, you never get interested in business before" her dad said as it lay down it's tea on the table.

"Just answer me dad, I want to know" Nancy said.

John just look in his daughter as it see that she'll never go until he answer his daughter

"Ok, for the starter, were not working with Jang anymore after the incident on their family, their clan is chaotic right now. And to answer your other question, the old leader of Jang is my best friend, but his dead now and he's older brother is the one who's managing their business" John answered as he clench his fist on the table, remembering the event.

Nancy seemed at lost on what she hear.

My family is working with Jang before? But why dad's angry? Nancy asked to herself.

John look at his child, as it look trouble.

" Child, speak your thoughts" John said.

Nancy take a deep sigh having trouble if she should let her dad know about Kathie.

But her father said that Kathies father and her father are best friend. And she know her dad very well, his a good men and always calm, so Nancy feel trouble to see him in anger.

But indeed.

" I had a friend, named Kathie, I just recently heard her confession, Dad. She's the Jang future leader, supposedly, but now she's hiding to save herself from trouble, she's the Daughter of previous Jang Leader." Nancy finally said as she shut her eyes.

Her father got silent, as his eyes widened.

John suddenly stand from his table, and started pacing around the room.

Nancy open her eyes and look at her dad.

"Dad, what is it? is she in danger?" Nancy asked.

" This is not good my child, if Kathie is still alive , Axel will do anything to make that kid get killed" John said in Serious tone.

"We must do something" John added as he look at her child.

" What are you talking dad, you make me feel scared" Nancy said.

"Nancy, your friend, Kathie is George daughter, there still hope!, And she need us we are her ally" John said in happiness as he hold both Nancy's shoulder.

"She's Really Alive!!, George, this time I'll do what I can to protect your daughter" John said and stand at the middle of the room as it look at ceiling and held his arm high like a victory.

Nancy felt more confused, so her father know Kathie and her family.

How come?

" Dad, how'd you know Kathie?" Nancy asked and stand, John looked at Nancy.

"Don't you remember? When you were still young we always visit their mansion, you'll always play with Kathie as me and George having our conversation" John said, and smiled to his piece of memory with his best friend.

When his best friend die, John felt tormented for doing nothing to prevent his best friend death. But now he has the chance to make things right again.

"Tell me where she is, and let me meet her honey" John said with pleading eyes as Nancy Nodded.

"Yeah, sure. It's  the reason why I talk to you in the first place" Nancy said and smiled as her Dad hug her in grateful.

Nancy take her rest for the night and plan to talk with Kathie about her Dad, as she close her eyes and smiled.

"I knew it, I've seen her before, my assumption is right, she's the Kathie I meet long years before" Nancy said in excitement.
