11 Memory Rex returned from the fighting room while I was engaged by a particularly interesting case involving a young child. I won’t go into the details since dying children cause much vexation among many people. I understand the trauma completely. Children seem so innocent and death should not touch them. Isn’t that the way the sentiment runs? However, that view of the universe assumes that death is some kind of punishment. It’s not. It’s a byproduct of the laws of the universe. For that matter, life itself is something of a byproduct. Don’t blame me. I didn’t set up the rules. As I have indicated previously in this narrative, no one set up the rules, at least not deliberately. Rules, or the laws of nature as they have come to be known, are completely arbitrary.
