I observed Rex and Morris at the beach but did not interfere with their activities. They followed a path unknown to me, despite my lofty position. I was charged with protecting Rex. However, that protection took many forms, and if harm befell him, that was not necessarily my concern. I will be completely honest here and tell you that I soon became much more interested in Morris. His situation, after all, came about through no fault of his own. I generally observe the widest latitude when it comes to thievery, bending over backward to understand and even condone the proclivity of so many to take what is not rightfully theirs, but I may have reached my limit with Rex’s abduction of Morris.
