I turned slowly and saw Nick, dressed in a loose blue short-sleeved shirt, khaki shorts, and brown sandals. He looked like he was on his way to the beach. He looked so relaxed and comfortable, it took my breath away. I had forgotten that he had asked me a question and shook my head to clear my thoughts. “I was looking for some tongs. I need them for the muffins and cinnamon rolls and whatnot.” I motioned backward with my thumb and Nick nodded. He looked as if he’d been caught off guard. My heart began racing and I wondered if there was something on me or in my teeth, but then I remembered this was probably the most dressed up he had ever seen me.
