Chapter 1: The Night the Blood Moon Rose
The night everything changed, the moon turned red.
I should have known that was a warning.
The elders always said a Blood Moon was a sign of disaster—a time when old secrets returned and forgotten powers awakened. But I never believed in old stories. Not when I had spent my entire life trying to survive as an ordinary Omega in a world that saw Omegas as weak.
My name is Lyra Ashwood, and for twenty-two years, I had been invisible.
That was exactly how I liked it.
The less people noticed me, the safer I was.
I lived in a small village at the edge of the kingdom, far away from the powerful Alpha packs that controlled everything. Here, no one cared about bloodlines, status, or ancient prophecies.
At least, that’s what I thought.
“Lyra!”
I looked up from the basket of herbs in my hands as my best friend, Elara, rushed toward me with wide eyes.
“You need to come with me. Now.”
I frowned. “What happened?”
She grabbed my arm and lowered her voice.
“The Blood Moon is rising.”
I glanced toward the sky.
The sun had already disappeared behind the mountains, and a strange red glow was spreading across the darkness. The sight sent an uncomfortable chill down my spine.
“So?” I asked, forcing a laugh. “It’s just the moon.”
Elara stared at me like I had lost my mind.
“Lyra, do you know what tonight is?”
I shook my head.
“The twenty-second Blood Moon.”
I froze.
Something about the way she said it made my heartbeat change.
“Why does that matter?”
Elara looked around before whispering.
“Because the last time a Blood Moon appeared on a person’s twenty-second birthday... that person disappeared.”
A cold feeling settled in my stomach.
I wanted to laugh at the ridiculousness of it. I wanted to tell her that old legends were just stories meant to scare children.
But before I could speak, a sharp pain suddenly shot through my chest.
I gasped.
The basket slipped from my hands, and the herbs scattered across the ground.
“Lyra?”
I grabbed my arm, trying to steady myself.
Something was happening.
Something inside me was waking up.
The air suddenly felt heavier. Every sound became louder, the rustling of leaves, the distant howl of wolves, even my own breathing.
Then came the scent.
Not mine...........Someone else’s.
An Alpha....A powerful one.
My body reacted before my mind could understand. My instincts screamed at me to run.
“Lyra, we need to leave,” Elara whispered, but it was already too late.
A low growl echoed from the forest.
Not from one wolf, from many.
My blood ran cold.
“We’re not alone,” I said.
Elara grabbed my hand.
“We need to get you out of here.”
We ran, branches scratched against my skin as we pushed through the trees. My heart pounded violently, and every step felt heavier than the last.
Behind us, wolves were getting closer.........Too close.
“Why are they following us?” I asked between breaths.
Elara didn’t answer and somehow, that scared me more.
“Elara,” she stopped.
Slowly, she turned to me.
“Because of you,” my stomach dropped immediately.
“What?”
Her eyes filled with fear.
“Lyra... there is something you don’t know about yourself.”
Before I could ask what, she meant, a voice came from the darkness.
“Found her,” I turned.
Three figures stepped out from between the trees.... Alphas.
Their eyes glowed under the red moonlight. The one in front smiled and said, “After all these years, the lost Omega has finally awakened.”
My breath caught.
Lost?
Omega?
I had heard those words before, but never together.
“What are you talking about?” I demanded.
The Alpha laughed.
“You really don’t know, do you?” he said, stepping closer.
“Your family did a good job hiding you.”
A growl ripped through the forest but it wasn’t from the wolves behind us. ,
It came from somewhere much farther away...A sound so powerful that every wolf around us immediately lowered their heads.
The Alphas in front of me went still.
Fear flashed across their faces.
“No...” one whispered.
The wind changed.... A scent filled the air.
Two scents.... Two powerful Alphas.
The kind that made every instinct inside me scream; the kind that made everyone else kneel.
The Alpha in front of me stepped back.
“The Blackwood twins...”my heart stopped.
Everyone knew that name.... Kael and Ryker Blackwood.
The most feared Alpha twins in the entire kingdom, the men who ruled without mercy.
The men no one dared to challenge.
And now.........They were coming for me.
A shadow moved between the trees, then another.
Two pairs of glowing eyes appeared in the darkness and a deep voice spoke.
“Move away from her.”
The enemy Alphas immediately bowed their heads because, the men standing before me were not ordinary Alphas.
They were kings among wolves.
Kael Blackwood stepped into the moonlight, his expression cold and unreadable.
Beside him stood Ryker Blackwood, a dangerous smile playing on his lips.
Their eyes landed on me, and the moment they saw me..........They froze.
For the first time in my life, I saw fear on an Alpha’s face.
Not fear of me but fear of what I was.
Kael’s voice was barely a whisper.
“Impossible...”
Ryker stared at me as if he had seen a ghost.
Then he said the words that changed my entire life.
“She’s the one.”
I didn’t understand, but I knew one thing.
The moment the Alpha twins found me...My old life was over.
And I was about to discover the secret everyone had been willing to kill for.
To be continued...
