Chapter 9

Chrissy and Anthony stared at Lovynia in shock. They blinked a few times and Anthony asked, “I’m sorry. We could not have heard you correctly. Could you repeat that?” Lovynia smiled a bit and repeated her question. “Would the two of you like to be the Beta couple for the pack?” They blinked a few more times before Chrissy spoke. “Why us? There must be better options. You’ve met with everyone in the time you’ve been here. Why us?” she asked. Lovynia stood and went to her friend. She wrapped her arms around Chrissy and said, “In my pack, the Beta was the Alpha’s best friend. The same was true for the future ranked members. The Beta was the Alpha’s best friend. Even though I haven’t been here for very long, you have become my closest friend here. I want no one else for the position as my right hand.” Chrissy started sobbing as her arms slowly wrapped around Lovynia. Anthony stood and hugged his mate from the back. “What do you think, Tony? Can we do this?” Chrissy asked in a link. “I have faith in our Alpha. If she thinks we can pull this off, so do I. I know you’ve known her for longer than I have, but you seem to trust her. I trust her, too.” He replied. Chrissy released Lovynia and stood after Lovynia stepped back a bit. “We’ll do it. We’d be honored to be the Beta couple.” Chrissy said. Lovynia jumped and hugged her friend again. She let go and hugged Anthony, earning a growl from Chrissy. Lovynia quickly let go and put her hands up in a surrender motion. “Sorry.” Chrissy lowered her head a bit. “Don’t be. You’re new mates. Even if you had been together for a long time, you would still react that way. I saw it all the time.” Lovynia waved her off. She left them to their privacy to celebrate their new position in the pack. She wandered around looking for something else to do. She found Elder Marks and approached him. “Good morning, Elder. Is there anything I can do to help with the ceremony?” “Actually, yes. Could you come with me for a moment?” he asked. Lovynia nodded and followed him to the guest room he was staying in. “What can I help with?” she asked. “We will need a new name for the pack. Sylas explained to me that when he rejected the Alpha title, he also rejected the Midnight Sun pack. That name can no longer be used as that pack no longer exists.” He replied. There was a knock on the door a few moments later and Sylas entered the room. “Sorry, am I interrupting? I wanted to ask Lovynia something.” He said. Lovynia looked at him. “About the new name for the pack. Elder Marks told me about it. I wanted to know what you thought about Lightless Sun. Your pack was called Lightless Moon and mine was called Midnight Sun. It would be a mix of the two. What do you think?” Sylas asked. Tears filled Lovynia’s eyes and she tried to blink them away. Sylas was startled and started to change his mind when Lovynia wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug. Her tears fell freely from her eyes. “I love it. Lightless Sun is perfect. Thank you. I was going to ask you if I could use part of your pack name with part of mine. I wanted to do something to honor both packs.” She sniffled. Sylas gently patted her back. In the short time Lovynia had been in his home, she had become like a daughter to him. Sota told him that he would have liked Lovynia to have been his sister. She pulled away and wiped her eyes with the backs of her hands. “I’m sorry. I don’t usually get that emotional.” Lovynia said. Sylas smiled softly at her and Elder Marks waved her off. “It’s perfectly understandable. You’re under quite a lot of pressure right now. Going from an Omega to an Alpha is a big deal.” The Elder said. A few hours later, the time for the ceremony was at hand. Lovynia was dressed in one of the most beautiful dresses she had ever worn. Chrissy gave it to her for the occasion. She was helping Lovynia with the finishing touches to her hair and makeup. “Do you think a pack run would be a good bonding time for us since it’s literally the birth of a new pack?” Lovynia asked as Chrissy finished the eyeshadow. “Yes. Definitely. The whole pack will feel much stronger as a whole after a pack run. Who is gonna be running, though? Tabrin or Azrin?” she asked. “Which one of you wants to run first?” Lovynia asked her wolves. “Azrin can go first. If you take a break at some point during the run, perhaps I can run the last part?” Tabrin replied. “Thank you, sister. Are you certain you don’t want to go first?” “I’m certain. I can wait.” Lovynia smiled at how much her two wolves loved each other and wanted what was best for each other. “I’m not gonna say. You’ll have to wait and see.” She said, smirking. “Boo! You’re no fun.” Chrissy stuck her tongue out, making Lovynia laugh. They heard Sylas talking to the people gathered around the front of his house through the open window in Lovynia’s room. “Time to claim your pack, Alpha.” Chrissy helped Lovynia to stand and led her to the crowd. “Thank you all for gathering here this evening. You already know from our last gathering that we will have a new Alpha tonight. Elder Marks is here to officiate this ceremony. Without further ado, here is our new Alpha! Lovynia Frost!” Sylas shouted over the crowd. They began cheering when they saw her exiting the house. Lovynia smiled at everyone and blushed a bit from the attention. She made her way to Sylas and Elder Marks. Sylas held a decorative bowl and knife. Lovynia stood facing the Elder with Sylas standing in the center. He placed the bowl and knife on a small table that was brought out and he took a step back. Elder Marks took Lovynia’s right hand in his. “Lovynia Frost, do you swear to follow our laws to the best of your abilities as an Alpha?” “I do.” “Do you swear to protect and represent this pack as its Alpha?” “I do.” “Do you swear to give your life in service of this pack?” “I do.” Elder Marks nodded to Sylas who made a cut on Lovynia’s right hand and Elder Marks’s right hand. They joined hands and let their blood drip into the bowl. He nodded to Lovynia. She took a deep breath. “Claim these wolves as yours. Give this pack its name.” a voice whispered in her head that wasn’t either one of her wolves. “I claim all of these wolves as my own in the name of the Lightless Sun Pack!” she shouted. A gust of wind blew through the crowd and swirled around Lovynia, Sylas, and Elder Marks. A scent filled the air. It smelled of dragons’ blood incense and burning charcoal. Lovynia felt the urge to shift at that moment. She stepped back a few feet and shifted into Azrin. Her fur was so dark that it seemed to devour any light that touched it. Her fur was truly pitch black, vantablack. The only light that was visible was from her glowing red eyes. She let out a haunting howl and the rest of the pack followed. They all shifted and she led them in a run through her new territory. She stopped at several points to mark the borders. After a few hours, they stopped at a pond in a clearing in the center of the pack lands. Many of the wolves got a drink of water from the pond. Lovynia shifted back to her human form for a moment. She basked in the feeling of being in a pack again. A chocolate brown wolf approached her. It was Suzuha, Chrissy’s wolf. A black wolf was close by, she figured it was Anthony’s wolf. Suzuha shifted back to Chrissy. “Didn’t you hear me linking you?” Chrissy asked. Lovynia’s eyes widened. “No, I didn’t.” she replied. She quickly tried to link Sylas and Elder Marks. “Lovynia? What’s wrong?” Elder Marks replied. She explained the situation. ”That must be because I am the only one you shared blood with. If you want to be able to link the other wolves, you must share blood with all of them.” He explained. Lovynia breathed a sigh of relief and told Chrissy what he said. “That would make sense. You ready to head back? Some of the older wolves are starting to get a bit tired.” Chrissy said. Lovynia nodded and shifted into Tabrin. Her white fur seemed to glow in the dark of the night. She let out a howl that sounded like a beautiful song. The others howled in response and headed back to their homes. Many of them followed their new Alpha. Lovynia would have to name Chrissy and Anthony as the Beta couple later. When they all returned, everyone went their separate ways. Lovynia went to her room and dressed for bed. She was in the field again with the young man she saw last time. He was closer and he was turned toward her. She now knew that he was her mate, and she certainly liked what she saw. Along with his light brown hair, he had the most gorgeous silver eyes. She took a step toward him, then she woke up.
