Tara’s POV:
The world seemed to move in slow motion and that few minutes of waiting became the longest wait of my life. Anthony had a firm grip around my waist trying to both comfort me and restrain me from running back into the building and into harm's way. I didn’t care that we were fighting, Crystal was like my sister and I had to know if she was okay.
Then we saw officers escorting everyone out and among the last of them to exit was Crystal and Adrian. Crystal gave me a small smiled and we calmly walked towards each other. But the boys? They were a different story. Adrian looked wild, his hair a mess and eyes filled with fear as he searched the crowd until his eyes fell upon Anthony.
Then he sprinted forward and Anthony did the same, running and colliding into a death grip hug.
I was touched. I don’t think I’ve ever seen brotherly love like that and it was so genuine. It really really nice to be in the presence of that and suddenly I began missing my own family. Not all of them because most of my family was terrible, but the ones that I did like, I missed in this very moment.
Taking a deep breath, I made a phone call.
“Hello?”
“Oh my god I was about to call you!!! The club you work at is on the news!! Are you alright angel?!”
“Yeah mom, I’m okay.”
“Thank god, your stepfather and I were about to drive down there if we didn’t hear from you!”
I sighed as she kept on talking loud in my ear, giving me a slight headache.
“Okay okay mom I just wanted to check in on you and also let you know I was okay. I’ll talk to you later.”
“Wait baby please don’t hang up...today was such a wake up call that anything can happen. Please, I want you to come home.”
“I’m an adult, I told you when I was 18 and I’ll tell you again, I’m never going back.”
“Sweetheart I meant to come home and visit. Stay a few days, I haven’t seen you since you left baby. I was scared I lost a daughter today.”
“You did lose a daughter when you took Brent’s side over mine” I hissed at her.
When he took advantage of me, I told my parents right away. My father just laughed and called me a w***e, he hated my mother so he assumed she put me up to it so she could mess with his head.
And my mother...she said that me and Brent were always around each other every second and she knew it would happen. She told me that it was wrong to lie about what happened and to just admit that I gave into my hormones. She told me she forgave me but I should’ve be having s*x until I was married.
The only people who believed me was my Nana and surprisingly, my step father. He took my side, which helped me but also destroyed me.
How could he believe me but my mother didn’t?
Till this day she still doesn’t believe me and it hurts...hurts bad.
“Honey please, let’s not go through this again. How long are you going to bring up the incident between you and your brother?”
“STEP BROTHER and he is NO family of mine.”
She sighed.
“Baby please, just come for a few days. You can even bring Crystal or whoever else you want.”
………..
“Are you still there?”
“Yeah I’m here. I’m bringing someone but not Crystal.”
“Then who are you bringing dear?”
“.....My boyfriend, Anthony.”
“You’re boyfriend?? Since when do you date?! And why haven’t I heard of him?!!!”
“See you soon mother” and with that, I hung up, snapping back into reality.
“Boyfriend huh?”
I spun around and saw a smiling Anthony walking towards me. I blushed and stood up on my tippie toes to give him a kiss.
“Yeah...if you want to be.”
“Damn right I do” he said, looking at me proudly.
It’s funny...the scariest thing just happened minutes ago. I was almost shot, I should’ve been scarred for life.
So why do I feel like I just won the lottery?
“So, who were you talking to anyway? It seemed pretty intense.”
“My mom”
“Wow, I don’t think you’ve ever talked about your family to me. I wonder what they’re like.”
“You’re gonna find out because I’m taking you with me this weekend to see them.”
