Useless Husband
Niccolo Morandi was in a widely spaced office. Directly across from him, an older man in suit was also seated. He stared at the documents on his desk before raising his gaze back to Niccolo. The latter had his fingers crossed, hoping for a stroke of good luck to finally shine down on him. But of course, he was never that lucky. "Your CV looks pretty impressive, but it's a shame I won't be able to offer you the position at the moment. You see, the reason is…." The rest of the man's words were unimportant to Niccolo. The bottom line of it all was that his application had been rejected. Again! He shut his eyes tight to keep himself from shedding the tears that had already blurred his vision. Forcing himself to smile at the employer, Niccolo said, "I understand, thank you for your time." The last thing he wanted was to break down at the company so he just gathered himself up and left the place. He went home, his shoulders slouched and head not leaving the ground. That was the kind of life he led everyday. So pathetic and useless! He was a terrible excuse for a man. A disappointment. His wife, the beautiful Kimora Davis was the kind of woman that every man would pray to have by his side. Other than the fact that she was extremely beautiful, she was also very smart, kind, wealthy and generous. The perfect example of a successful woman. They say nobody is perfect but whoever did must not have met Kimora. She was the best woman and she deserved the best man who could treat her the right way she deserved to be treated. Like a queen. But instead she ended up with him, a disaster for a husband. Many times, his wife had told him that he shouldn't accept the fact that things would go on the way they were for eternity. She said they were only going through a bad phase, and they would surely get over it. When though? Even after doing his best to come out with a good grade in school. After all the hard work he put into the things he did, he was still unable to get himself a job. Niccolo was sure that he had been to almost all the companies in all of Seattle to submit his CV but after everything, he never got picked. Why?! Kimora was at home when he arrived. She smiled and walked up to him as he let himself into their apartment. "Hey honey, you're back." Niccolo wished he could meet her with a smile as well but he was nowhere near a joyful mood. "Again. It happened again." He reported sadly. Understanding what her husband meant, Kimora pulled into her embrace and held him tightly. "It's okay honey." She assured. The tears he had been holding back suddenly started to fall freely and he couldn't stop them. He really was a useless husband. "As long as we have each other, there is nothing more important." Kimora said, although Niccolo was not convinced. He knew their love for wach other was sustaining their relationship just fine, but it just wasn't enough without money. Ever since they got married, Kimora had been the one providing for their little family. She ever complained, but how long was Niccolo going to keep being the househusband? He wanted to take care of her too! "I love you, Niccolo Morandi." She said to him, a soft smile on her face. The words seemed to go right into his heart, because it made Niccolo feel a lot better. "I love you too, darling." He replied. Kimora loved her husband, more than she could describe with words. Just seeing him smile was more than enough reason for her to be happy. If only he could get a job, that way she would be able to see more of his charming smiles. "Niccolo," she started as they both walked into the living room together. She knew that he was not going to like the option she was offering but she had no other choice. "You know, I was wondering… maybe you could try to talk to my brother about this." She said as they sat down together. The second she said that, she noticed a change in her husband's posture. There was a crease between his brows and his lips were pursed but he remained quiet. "Now I know you might not want to, and I completely understand you but… what if he could actually help? You know my brother works at father's company but he also has a small business on the side that he manages all by himself. I already went to see him personally and I told him to help you out. I just feel that it might be better if both of you saw, that way you can talk better. Don't you think?" When he remained quiet, she added. "I know he's the right person to ask for help. He has a lot of connectios that would no doubt be of use to us." Niccolo couldn't deny the fact that Kimora was right about what she said, but it didn't change the fact that it was a terrible idea. He couldn't tell her why though, or else it would only make her sad. Instwsd he smiled at her. "Fine, I'll meet up with him." "Yay! Thank you honey." She kissed him on the cheek as she felt relieved. She knew the kind of mother she had. It was surprise that she had not shown up with a stranger she wanted her to marry. But Kimora was sure that if things went on like that, it was only a matter of time before she tried to marry her off to some wealthy stranger. •••~••• Congratulations ma'am. You're two months pregnant." The doctor, a woman in her mid forties announced with a smile. Kimora was overwhelmed with joy when she heard the news. "Pregnant?" Her hand instinctively went down to caress her stomach. The doctor nodded yes. "Congratulations." "Thank you so so much." She was over the moon NY the news. "Thank you so much, doctor." The second she got home, she rushed to give her husband the news to her husband but he was not home. "Where could he have gone?" She dialed his number a few times but there was no answer. Did something happen? •••~•••
