The next day, Loredana sat in a cafe with Isabella reading aloud a typed letter written by Elena.
I’m sorry to do this in a letter but I had to leave Milan and go back home. The problems with Francesco upset me, the course was not satisfying me any longer, and the money issues have all given me reason to return to Laurino. An emergency back home also gave me a stronger reason to return, and I no longer have a life here. I will miss you all, and will make contact with you once I have settled back home.
