CHAPTER 54
ON A MISSION
Francesco gripped the receiver of the phone, sighing heavily. He drew his hands through his hair and swallowed.
“Papa, you cannot tell me you haven’t seen her. In her letter she explicitly said that she was going back home. Mentioned some kind of emergency.”
Francesco had come clean to his father about his relationship with Elena, and his father wasn’t too happy about it. Not that he cared any longer, as it was time to assert some control over his father. He’d never let his father dominate him again.
Elena had brought out a strength in him that he’d never known he had.
His father grunted. “She is not here. Of that I am sure.”
“Have you seen her father?”
“Yes, and according to him, Elena was fine in Milan. He’d spoken to her recently and she was good. Now lea
