Chapter 7

The next morning, Mr Amirion slowly opened his eyes and instinctively glanced at the other side of the bed and immediately noticed it was empty. "Did she really sleep in the living room?"He muttered to himself with a frown, he sat up on the bed and he focused his gaze on his neatly arranged clothes on the bed. "Who did this?"He asked himself still surprised. "Or did I pick these out myself last night..."He was confused, he got out of bed. "Cody!" He called then the bedroom door swung open, Chloe walked in carrying a breakfast tray. On it were a turkey sandwich, scrambled eggs, and a steaming black cup of coffee. Mr Amirion froze for a second, ever since Nadia's death he had never had breakfast in his bedroom again. Every meal had been served in the dining room. "Nadia" He called as his eyes softened unconsciously. "Yes, Mr Amirion?"Chloe answered, thinking he was referring to her by her middle name. Her voice pulled him back to reality. "Who asked you to do this? Where's Mrs Loveth?" He asked as he cleared his throat, his expression returning to it's usual coldness. "No one asked me to"Chloe replied with a hearty smile. "I just thought I'd make breakfast for you even if you've not been exactly nice to me, you still gave me clothes and a place to stay besides..."She paused. "Considered it a way of me apologizing for smashing your phone, it's the least I could do" "You really didn't have to and this doesn't change anything, it doesn't mean you won't still go through with the deal"He said flatly. "I never said I was backing out" She replied calmly. "Whatever" He rolled his eyes and looked away. "Just leave, I need to get dressed" "Okay" She carefully placed the tray on the bedside table and quietly left the room. He stared at the breakfast for long before walking into the bathroom. A few minutes later, he returned wearing only his trousers. He didn't bother to put his shirt on, he sat down and took a bite of the sandwich, his eyes widened. "This is amazingly delicious" He quickly took another bite of the sandwich and a quick sip of the coffee. "It's almost identical"A nostalgic smile spread across his face. "It taste just like Nadia's who am I kidding?" He admitted to himself and paused. "Did she really make this all by herself?" He said impressed. "I'm not giving her the satisfaction of knowing that" He continued eating until the tray was empty. After finishing the last bite of his meal, Mr Amirion wore his shirt and buttoned it up and he slipped on his suit jacket. He picked up his tie, he sighed as he stared at it. "Mr Jude..."He muttered under his breath. Normally, Mr Jude would knot his tie for him every morning. It had become a routine that he had never bothered to learn how to do it himself. He went downstairs, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee still lingered in the air. Chloe was in the kitchen, wiping the counter with a towel as she hummed her favorite song. She looked up as she heard footsteps. "Leaving already?" She asked with a bright smile and he just nodded. Just as he reached the front door, Chloe called after him. "Wait please..." She walked up to him as he stopped but he didn't turned around immediately. "What now?" He rolled his eyes as he turned around, she folded her hands behind her back. "So, how was the breakfast?" She asked with a mischievous grin. He slipped his hands into his pockets and answered without hesitation. "It was average" "Average?" She repeated as she raised her brows up. "Yes, I've had much better meals" Chloe had a smug smile across her face. "Really? That's strange" He frowned. "What's strange?" "I heard someone saying this is delicious it tastes just like Nadia" His eyes widened for a brief second and went back to its usual coldness. "You were listening outside my room?" "I wasn't listening..."She shrugged innocently. "Our room has thin walls"She added and he let out an annoyed sigh. "Point of correction it's my room" "You're unbelievable... you're also such a terrible liar" "What do you mean?"He asked in confusion. "So you mean to tell me you didn't finish every single bite?" He looked away. "I was just hungry"He said, avoiding her gaze. "Oh? So hunger made you lick the plate clean too?"She asked, trying not to laugh. "I did no such thing" He denied. "There wasn't even a breadcrumb left"She added, he clicked his tongue in annoyance. "You seem to have a lot of free time" He says rudely. "I only notice details" He let out a quiet scoff before reaching for the doorknob. "One decent breakfast doesn't qualify you as an exceptional cook" "One decent breakfast?"She repeated "You practically inhaled it"She said with folded arms. "I have a busy schedule" "And coffee?"She asked "And what about it?" "You drank every drop"She said with a mischievous smile. "It would have been wasteful to leave it"Chloe couldn't hold it anymore, she burst into laughter. For a brief moment, he simply stood there watching her. The bright sound of her laughter echoed through the house, filling a silence that had lingered since Nadia's passing. He snapped out of the memories, his expression hardened once more. "I'm leaving " "Wait" She said once more. "What is it this time?" He sighed impatiently. "You forgot something"She whispered. "I don't forget things" She stepped forward "You did this time...your tie"His brows furrowed, his ego was altered. "I'll manage"He said with a frown. "Will you?" Without waiting for permission, Chloe gently took the ends of the tie. "Stand still" She said sternly, his body instinctively followed his commands. Her hands moved with surprising confidence, smoothing the fabric before looping into a perfect knot. "Is your dad rich?"He asked surprisingly. "What do you mean?" "Because how are you good at this?" "I've seen people do this and I learnt it so I can do this for my husband someday" "Really?" He asked surprised. "Yes" "Then why did you do it for me?"He asked. "It's just a friendly deal" "Sure later"He said and left leaving Chloe in shock. "He couldn't even say thank you"She frowned.
