Chapter one
The chamber was eerily quiet, but for the sound of flickering of torches against the obsidian walls. The three Seers of Vaegyl stood in a perfect circle, their robes shimmering like liquid shadow. At the center sat the Oracle’s Pool rippling unnaturally, though there was no way wind will be present in the cave like structure. It was that time in every century, when the moon chooses someone meant to restore its fading power in order to prevent the chaos that would arise with both the human world and Vaegyl colliding, and establish balance. The ritual had been followed for as long as history could remember. But tonight, as the sacred veil of moirae rippled violently to reveal who was destined to save the realm, it revealed something impossible. A council of robed figures stood around it, their faces lined with centuries of wisdom. "The time has come again," Elder Caelum whispered, gripping his staff. "The moon's wound weakens." Beside him, elder Nyrax stepped forward, golden tattoos glowing faintly against his dark skin. He lifted his hands over the Veil, and the mist moved slowly upward, twisting violently. Shapes formed within the faded visions, blurred glimpses of a face, a soul bound by fate. But the moment the image sharpened, The Seers gasped, Bewildered. A c***k grew across the floor. The Veil itself rippled violently, its light dimming to an eerie black. The seers stood mouth ajar. This had never happened before. Then they saw it. Not a warrior of their world. Not a bloodline marked by fate. Not one of their own. The chosen one… was not in Vaegyl. For the first time in known history, the one destined for the ritual was in the other world. The human world. The High Seer, Veyna, stepped forward, her aged face pale beneath the veil that fell over her blinding white hair. “This cannot be,” she whispered. “Never before has the moon called to an outsider.” Yet the vision did not waver or dissipate. The image in the chug of smoke was clear, a girl with fiery red hair and the most beautiful pale skin, stood looking out a window unaware of the fate that awaited her. A high council meeting among the leaders of vaegyl was called immediately, the warriors of Veydrin summoned. Their faces did not hide the displeasure in who the moon has chosen but they would never question. "She has to be brought to vaegyl immediately" Veyna declared. "How easy will that be?" callum asked. Veyna glared at him "She is just an ordinary human!" "Is she though? since the oracle chose her" callum countered. Huge silence fell over the chamber as the weight of the revelation settled. With the question everyone had in mind "why her?" For centuries, the Chosen Ones had always come from their realm. But now? The prophecy had chosen an outsider. And she had no idea.
