Chapter Five

Mae went back upstairs to her room and took a shower and got back into the clothes she wore at breakfast. She wasn't sure if the Alpha's did lunch or not but she went downstairs and hung around the dinning room just in case. This way no one would be upset with her for being late again.

" Are you hungry again?" Katherine asked as she happened to be walking by.

" No I just didn't want to be late again" Mae spoke up quietly.

" Lunch is in an hour" Katherine told her as she went to walk away.

" Hey um what are you upto right now? Mae asked her.

" Why you think we're friends and going to hang out?" Katherine asked glaring at her.

" Of course not. I'm just trying to find things to keep myself busy I'm not used to doing nothing all day" Mae replied.

" I can't help you. I have pack tasks to take care of. Eventually I'm going to be Luna not you" she said as she walked away.

Mae didn't reply she just quietly watched her walk away. She sighed and figured she may as well go for a walk. The grounds were beautiful and it felt like it was just went on forever. She could hear arguing in the distance and tried to walk away from it until she heard her name. She got as close as she could without being seen and hopefully without being smelt.

" I don't understand why you won't admit it. You want her, you all do" the voice of Alyssa spoke up.

" I can't speak for my brothers. But it's always been you that hasn't changed" Max told her.

" You've never looked at me the way you look at her" she told him.

" I can't help that she's my mate. But I can help my actions towards her and I'm not doing anything to her I promise you that" he told her.

Oh that hurt she thought to herself but she knew this was something she just needed to realize. And the sooner the better.

She could hear Alyssa sigh " at least you're not Ace. He's resisting the urge to f**k her so badly it's obvious " she told him.

" Again I can't speak for my brothers. It's not something we've talked about" he told her.

" I still don't understand why she had to be brought back here" she told him.

" Kai was really pushing for it. He acts like he's uninterested but I can tell it's a front. The fact he's single definitely is playing a part of why she's here. Give it a couple months and they'll be together just watch" Max spoke up.

Just the thought of that made her heart flutter maybe there was still hope after all. She just didn't know how she should approach this obviously she couldn't let on she knew something could possibly happen. But then again this also wasn't something he had spoken about, Max could be seeing things completely wrong.

" I've got stuff to do. I'll see you at lunch?" she asked him as she heard kissing noises.

The next thing she knew she heard footsteps and he had snuck up on her.

" Eavesdrop much?" he asked her.

" Sorry I really didn't mean to" she told him.

" Sure ya didn't. Get anything interesting for your journal?" he asked her.

She shook her head " I promise that wasn't it" she told him.

" What are you still doing here?" he asked.

" What am I supposed to be doing around here anyway?" she asked him.

" You can do anything you want " he told her.

" But what does that mean?" she asked him.

He rolled his eyes " hobbies, friends, activities " he told her.

" I don't even know what my hobbies could be I was never allowed any of that" she told him.

" Why do you keep talking like you have this traumatic past?" he asked stepping closer to her.

" Because I do. My parents left me behind when I was four. The Alpha and Luna were left to raise me. I slept in the attic the entire time I lived there, once I was old enough I was put to work while other kids had friends and played" she told him.

His face instantly softened as she spoke he looked genuinely sorry for her " I don't know why I told you all of that" she quickly spoke realizing she over shared.

" That's f****d up. I'm sorry" he said stepping closer to her.

Without realizing it she had started to cry " oh f**k don't cry" he said quickly pulling her into a hug.

At that point she had lost all control as he held onto her and rubbed her back " Calm down it's OK. You're safe here" he told her.

In that moment she snapped out of it " I am not safe here. Ace literally chocked me not long ago" she told him.

Max looked shocked " He did what?" he asked her.

All Mae did was nod her head as Max grabbed onto her sleeve and started dragging her through the house. Oh f**k I'm in trouble she thought.

" Max stop. I deserved it" she said trying to get him to release her.

" Nobody deserves that" he told her rolling his eyes.

" Ace there you are" Max said once they found him in the kitchen.

" You put your hands on her" Max said as more of an accusation less of a question.

Ace shrugged his shoulders " Yeah and?" he asked his brother.

" You know better then that" he responded.

" It's not like she's our Luna" Ace spoke.

" It doesn't matter. You know better then to put your hands on any woman. Do it again were gonna have a problem" Max told his older brother.

Ace looked between the two of them as Mae kept her head down " You suck his c**k to get him on your side?" he asked her.

" I don't want anything to do with her. But I expect her to be safe here" Max spoke before Mae could speak up.

Ace rolled his eyes and left the room " He shouldn't give you anymore problems" he said as he left the room suddenly.

She didn't even get the chance to thank him like she wanted to. She just sighed as she was once again left alone.
