Escape

I was perplexed by the situation unfolding before my eyes. My heart all of a sudden wanted a stranger that I didn’t know and that was complicating things rather rapidly. Yet, when I looked at his face, he seemed oddly familiar but I couldn't put my finger on why. Nevertheless, I wanted to kill the sadistic Alpha, and nothing was stopping me from my goal. “That is my mate, and you know the rules on mates!” He argued, growling through gritted teeth. Standing up against your Alpha was almost unheard of in our packs. To be able to do so he must have had a title of his own. “Get out! I’m warning you! This one is mine.” The Alpha growled again. “Not a chance. Respectfully, Alpha, she is mine and you know it.” He responded. He was looking dreamier by the minute. I took this moment of distraction to creep to my feet, and with the Alphas back turned away from me, he had no idea. I may have been locked in chains, but I thought I would take this to my advantage. I wrapped the chains around his neck and leaped onto his back, pulling as tightly as I could. This was it; this was my moment. He grasped onto them tightly, but I pulled back even tighter against him. He fell to his knees, and I could feel his strength depleting under me. I pulled even tighter as he collapsed, just a little longer to make sure, I thought but before I could finish, I was ripped away from him. “No!” I yelled in defeat as I was dragged from the Alphas unconscious body. “Are you trying to get us killed?!” He growled as he grasped onto me. I pushed the bond from my mind, ignoring the amazing sparks that flew throughout my body as he grasped onto me. Fighting his grasp with my own resistance. “Let go of me!” I screamed, causing him to release me instantly. I ushered to my feet away from him, scowling down at the unconscious man. “He was going to rape me!” I screamed at my mate who I understood was called Dimitri. “Would you rather I let him live?” I snapped in defence at my actions. His face dropped and his eyes grew dark. “Just let me think.” He muttered, pulling his fingers through his beautiful dark hair. “Ive got to get you out of here, and now!” He snapped, jumping to his feet. I attempted to argue but before I could he grabbed me, throwing me over his shoulder. I resisted against him, but the chains pinned my wrists to my body as they rested between us. God damnit, I thought in defeat, could this get any worse? “Put me down!” I yelled, but to no avail. “Ugh! How could this situation get any worse?” I yelled to my wolf in my mind. “I’m not sure, I am conflicted with emotions right now. We have found our mate and he is so handsome, and he is rescuing us!” She howled with excitement. “Bah! Dumb wolf!” I scoffed, earning me and instant low growl from her. “Did you not smell the room before we went in there? He has probably had his own hands all over a poor girl in there! Do not be fooled by his scent and looks. The Alpha wasn’t exactly ugly and look what he turned out to be!” I scolded her childish excitement. Today I should have woken up in my own bed at home. It’s my birthday and we had such a celebration planned. I was going to shift for the first time and become one with my wolf after waiting for what seemed like forever. Now I am going to be stuck, fearing for my life with a stranger in the middle of a snowed under abyss. “Where are you even taking me?” I yelled at Dimitri. “Shh! You need to be quiet of they will hear us! Theres a secret tunnel down here that can us out of the pack grounds.” He hushed me as he continued to carry me down a dimly lit hallway. I let out a sigh. What kind of pack needs a secret tunnel exit anyway? The sick kind that deals in all the wrong crimes. I answered my own question with sarcasm. After a while he came to a stop and placed me gently on the ground. I looked up to a see a wooden door that appeared to be complete encased in ice. “It may take two of us to get this open.” He suggested. I looked down at the chains the bound my hands to my feet and back up to his face. Without even having to ask, he broke the chain connecting my wrists to my ankles and then broke the one connecting my wrists and my ankles. I still had shackles wrapped round my wrists and ankles but at least I was able to move freely now and run if I must. “Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t kill you and go back to kill the rest of your pack?” I uttered with a scowl on my face. “Believe it or not, we aren’t all bad and I’ve been waiting for you my whole life.” He said softly and I could see the sincerity in his eyes. I shook it off. If we met in different circumstances, I may have reacted differently to this. I let out a teenage, related huff and stood to my feet. Pushing against the door alongside him with all my might. Slowly but surely, the door released its frozen grip from the frame. I hadn’t realised until it finally opened that there were about 5ft of snow behind it. Shouting and growling erupted in the distance of the hall and instantly I knew the Alpha had been found or woken had woken up. “Quick, we need to shift. Theres a log cabin that I own, no one here knows about it. You need to follow me, now!” He instructed but to my shame I didn’t know how to shift, nor had I ever had the opportunity to. Plus, the shackles on my wrists would put my wolf in severe pain if I did it right now. Possible brake our bones even. I grasped my inner arm nervously and shuffled my feet. “What’s the matter?” He asked in a rush as the sound of shouting and growling grew ever louder. Echoing through the tunnel as they drew closer at a fast pace. “I haven’t shifted before.” I admitted, causing him to sigh. “I will shift, and you jump onto my back.” He said quickly as he stripped his clothes and handed them to me. He shifted into a beautiful grey wolf, I would love to say that I got to admire him but sadly I only had time to jump onto his back and grasp his fur before we took off into the night. We were chased for miles, through a forest that was covered in trees. His wolf’s fur blended with the snow and after a blizzard rolled in, it became harder for them to track us. In a way the thick snow falling from the sky was saving our life, but it was also putting us in danger. I could link with Dimitri as we were not part of the same pack or mated. So, I had to hope that he knew where he was going because I was getting cold in my ripped satin nighty and the snow was growing as high as his back. I grasped onto his fur tightly, laying down against his fur in a bid to keep warm. I closed my eyes and imagined being warm and back at home with my family, hoping that the memory would keep me alive. It wasn’t long until the cold would make me feel numb all over and eventually I would fall asleep, losing consciousness on his back.
