Chapter1
Meeting her daddy's fiancée
3rd Person POV
“Isn’t that Miguel?” Francesca immediately looked over when her friend mentioned the name of the boy she had admired for so long.
Her friend’s words were true—but her heart sank again when she saw him with another girl.
“How many girlfriends has he had this year? Gosh, he’s terrible,” her friend said with a playful grimace.
Francesca just smiled to hide the bitterness. “Miguel’s happy that way, so let’s just leave him be. So what if he’s had many girlfriends? He’s not like those bad playboys. He takes care of his girlfriends in the way he wants, and they’re lucky,” she said without hesitation.
Her friend just made an even weirder face. “What do you even see in him? Tsk. Come on, we have a quiz in Oblicon.”
Francesca let herself be pulled along, but her eyes stayed glued to Miguel. She didn’t know if her eyes were just playing tricks on her, but she caught him looking back at her—with a smile.
She quickly blushed and looked away.
Since it was still early for their Oblicon class, they hung out in front of the classroom. Francesca was grateful there were seats in the hallway; otherwise, they’d have had to sit on the floor.
Because of the upcoming quiz, she used Miguel as her inspiration and eagerly reviewed one of the chapters they would be tested on.
“Girl, how did you manage such a high score?! This is Oblicon, Francesca! It’s so hard!” her friend exclaimed, nearly out of breath.
Francesca couldn’t help but laugh. “I have inspiration for studying. You should find inspiration too—maybe it’ll make you like studying. Maybe even during vacation, you’ll want to study,” she said with a grin.
“What? Miguel again? How can he inspire you when he doesn’t even study? Admit it—you’re just really smart!” Her friend gave her that sharp look again, but Francesca ignored it, used to her friend’s teasing.
“Relax. Next time, we can study together. Maybe it’ll help you,” she said with a smile.
“We’ve tried that before, haven’t we?”
“Well, maybe it’ll work this time. Anyway, see you next week. Enjoy your weekend.” She kissed her friend on the cheek and walked away.
Outside, she saw her family’s familiar car and ran to it, climbing inside.
“Good evening, kuya. How are you?” she asked with a smile.
“I’m fine, iha. How’s school? By the way, your dad has visitors, so he said you should go straight to the library,” the driver replied, starting the car.
“I’m fine, kuya. Visitors? Wow, it’s been a while. Our house feels like a haunted house with just us there,” she joked, and the driver just smiled.
Their house wasn’t far—about a fifteen-minute walk—but since it was already evening, her dad often made the driver pick her up from university.
A few minutes later, the car stopped. Francesca turned off her phone and got out. When she entered the house, her personal nanny greeted her and took her bag upstairs. “Good evening, ate. How was your day?” she said with a smile.
“All good, France. Go to the library. Your dad’s there,” her nanny said. Francesca just nodded, already knowing why, as the driver had explained.
She decided to follow instructions and went straight to the library. She knocked three times, and the door opened. The library was fairly large, and her dad often had guests stay there so they could relax.
“Hello, darling. How’s school?” her dad asked as she approached him, giving him a cheek kiss.
“It’s fine, still a lot of quizzes as usual.” Her eyes wandered and she noticed a woman, maybe just a few years younger than her dad, with a man beside her—Miguel. She almost gasped.
“It’s okay, darling. I know you can handle it,” her dad said, smiling. “By the way, this is your Aunt Mich and her son, Miguel. Do you know him? He also studies at your university.”
Her dad pulled her to sit beside him. “Uhm yes, dad. My friend and I see him often.” She felt proud she had answered correctly, especially since Miguel was right there in the room—her long-time crush.
“Well, I don’t have to worry about my daughter now, Mich. Miguel is here for her,” her dad said with a smile.
“What do you mean, dad?” Francesca felt uneasy.
“Remember, my dear, I promised to give you a complete family. This is it, and I’m making it happen,” her dad said happily.
She couldn’t believe the joy on her dad’s face. She wanted a complete family too, but she hadn’t expected this.
She bit her lips and glanced at Miguel. “Thank you, dad. You never fail me,” she said.
She kissed her dad’s cheek, making him smile even wider.
Since it was already evening, they had dinner together. At the table, they introduced themselves, and Francesca was overjoyed. She would finally have a complete family—and one part of her heart was thrilled that her long-time crush, Miguel, would be her brother. She was also happy for her dad, feeling like his family was finally whole.
Her dad’s world didn’t seem to revolve solely around her or his work—he just wanted her to have a good life, even if he raised her alone.
After dinner, she returned to the library. She had her own study room there, so even with guests around, she could focus on her studies.
The exams were coming up, so she needed to study, even if there were no quizzes tomorrow.
She took a deep breath and sat in her swivel chair, spinning lightly until she got tired. She looked at the ceiling, noticing all the star stickers.
Was she ready for her long-time crush to become her sibling? This was what she wanted—a happy, complete family—but part of her heartfelt heavy.
