Damian's POV I know, I told him. I watched her walk back to the house. Shoulders slightly curved, holding herself together. The driver pulled out. I didn't let myself turn to look. If I turned, I would stop the car. And I couldn't afford to stop the car. Not until I knew — really knew — whether she was reaching for me or for what I represented. She was extraordinary. I already knew that. But there were other extraordinary women. And I would rather lose her than be wanted only as a means to an end.
