Unexpected Chaos
Oh s**t! I jumped out of bed and rushed to shower and get dressed. Today is the first day of training and I'm late! My dad will never let me forget this.
I decided to choose a tan sports bra, black shorts and slip on my running shoes. I'm bounding down the stairs two at a time when I crash into someone. We fell down the last flight of stairs. I'm such a clutz! I apologized and took off to the training room.
My name is Jewel. I'm the firstborn of the Apha of The Emerald Pack. Yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinking. It is rare that an alpha has a daughter as his firstborn, but here I am. My parents surprisingly have 4 daughters, which is extremely rare.
Our pack is the largest and has the best warriors on the Western coast. I've always wanted to become a warrior, and my dad finally agreed, since I'll get my wolf tomorrow.
I round the corner full speed, and I can see the trainees exiting the training room heading to the field. I fall in line behind my best friend Kit.
"You're late, Jewel. What happened to not staying out late?"
"Shut up, Kit. I made it, didn't I?"
We continued to jog. As we formed a circle on the field, my father walked out and looked directly at me.
"Jewel, I expected more from you," he said through mind link.
"I apologize, Dad. It won't happen again, I promise. Please let me still train today."
"This is your only free pass, just as everyone else gets." He cuts off the mind link.
We trained for 3 hours. I was surprised I could walk back to my room. After I got out of the shower, I went to the dining hall for lunch. Most of the pack grabs what they need and leave, but today, the entire pack was seated in the dining hall, which was rare. I went to get myself a plate and was pulled to the side by my sister Elaira.
"Did you hear we have new pack members arriving today?" She could barely contain herself. I smiled at my little sister because she's always been a ball of joy and excitement. That would explain why everyone was present today. I finished speaking with my sister and made my plate. I was starving.
I saw Kit and went to sit with her. Kit is short for Kitarra. She hates her name. I joke with her all the time because it's not as bad as some names I've come across. But everyone in the pack calls her Kit. She's a few months older than me, so she has her wolf already. But, surprisingly, she doesn't want to find her mate. She hopes to wait until she has fought as a warrior, and then she will settle down.
I sat down, and we began chatting about our day when we heard a commotion outside and a pack mind link from my dad telling everyone we were under attack and to get to our designated stations. We train weekly with the pack to make sure everyone knows where to go.
As everyone is scattering, Kit and I run through the double doors that lead outside. There are 50 rouges fighting our warriors, and my dad is holding them off. Kit sprints off to the right around the pack house. I followed her to see three rouges running after children!
Kit shifts and begins to run faster. Dammit, why don't I have my wolf?
"Hey, you d***s pick on someone your own size!"
The rogues turn around and start running towards Kit and me. She collides with one and starts fighting. I yelled to the kids to get to the bunker.
Even though my Dad is the alpha, my Mom is a hybrid half werewolf and half fairy. I've been training with her to control my abilities since I was 5. One amazing ability I've perfected is making duplicates of myself.
As the other two rouges close in, I smile and focus on separating myself. I start fighting both rouges and after getting one down, Kit joins me with the other. He looked to be about our age. I linked Kit as we began to circle him.
"We should save him and let Dad interrogate him to see who would be foolish enough to attack our pack."
"Good thinking, Jewel." She shifted back, and I honed in my powers to see if we could talk some sense into this kid.
"Hey, we don't want to hurt you. You are only a kid. Why are you attacking our pack?"
He snarled and lunged at me, which I dodged.
"Guess it's the hard way." Kit said, but before she could shift, we heard a loud roar, which made all of us stop. It was Dad.
"Shift mutt!" The rogue snarled, and my Dad grabbed him by the neck and yelled, "SHIFT NOW!" The ground shook with his words.
The rouge obeyed the alpha command and shifted. My Dad and I gasped. I couldn't believe who we were looking at.
"It can't be!" Kit yelled.
The rogue stood before us, panting heavily, his eyes wild with a mix of fear and defiance. Kit's exclamation echoed in my mind as I struggled to grasp the reality of the situation. This was no ordinary rogue. It was someone we knew.
"Talon?" I whispered, disbelief coating my voice. The boy before us had been one of our own, a member of the Emerald Pack who had disappeared months ago without a trace. His disheveled appearance and gaunt features were a stark contrast to the vibrant young warrior I once knew.
My father, the Alpha, still had Talon's neck in a vice-like grip, his eyes blazing with anger and confusion. "Where have you been, and why are you attacking your own pack?" he demanded, his voice low and dangerous.
Talon's eyes darted around, looking for an escape, but there was none. "I didn't have a choice," he muttered, barely audible. "They forced me."
"Who forced you?" My father's grip tightened, and I could see the struggle on Talon's face.
"The Shadow Pack," Talon finally confessed. "They captured me. They’ve been planning this attack for months. I had to join them, or they would have killed me."
A collective gasp echoed through the surrounding warriors. The Shadow Pack was a notorious group of rogues known for their brutality and cunning. Their attacks were relentless, and their motives often shrouded in mystery.
"Take him to the cells," my father commanded, his voice cold. "We'll deal with him later. Right now, we need to protect the pack."
As two warriors dragged Talon away, I could see the pain in his eyes. Whatever he had been through, it had changed him. Kit and I exchanged a look, knowing that this was just the beginning of a much larger conflict.
"We need to fortify our defenses," my father said, turning to the rest of the warriors. "Jewel, I need you to gather the pack leaders. We need a strategy meeting immediately."
I nodded, sprinting off towards the meeting hall, my mind racing. The Shadow Pack's involvement was a game-changer. As I reached the hall, I found the leaders already assembling, their faces grim with the news that had spread like wildfire.
Once everyone was seated, my father wasted no time. "We have been attacked by the Shadow Pack," he began. "They have forced one of our own to fight against us. This means they are closer than we thought and more dangerous. We need to increase patrols, reinforce our borders, and prepare for any further attacks."
The leaders nodded in agreement, and discussions erupted about the best strategies to protect the pack. As plans were laid out, I couldn't shake the feeling that something more sinister was at play. Talon's return and the attack felt like pieces of a puzzle that we had yet to fully understand.
After the meeting, I found Kit waiting for me outside. "This is bad, Jewel," she said, her voice filled with concern. "The Shadow Pack won't stop until they've destroyed us."
"I know," I replied, my determination hardening. "But we're not going to let that happen. We'll fight back with everything we have."
As the sun began to set, casting long shadows over the pack lands, I knew that our real battle was just beginning. The Shadow Pack had declared war, and it was up to us to defend our home, our family, and our way of life.
That night, as I lay in bed, my mind raced with the day's events. Tomorrow, I would get my wolf and, with it, a new set of challenges and responsibilities. But one thing was certain: I would do whatever it took to protect the Emerald Pack.
The dawn would bring a new day, and with it, the strength and unity of our pack. We would stand together, fight together, and if necessary, die together. That's what it meant to be a part of the Emerald Pack. As the first-born daughter of the Alpha, I would lead by example. The Shadow Pack had made a grave mistake in underestimating us.
Tomorrow, the real fight would begin.
