Father is dead!

Zeus's POV "Amber." I moaned, trailing my hands on the soft bedspread. My eyelids fluttered open immediately when I noticed that it was empty. I sat up and flicked my gaze around the room. It was then I realized that I was alone and that she had gone. A pair of glittering silver earrings caught my eye on the bedside table and immediately a smile twitched on my face. At least she left me a memento. I reached for it. I stared at it for some seconds before getting off the bed. There were far more important things to find out. I needed to know why Jonathan had summoned me home using my father's seal. Then when I would go after her. Although the Pack was big, I knew I'd find her. There was something spectacular about her. I donned my clothes, carried my bag, and walked out of the room. The room would forever hold a dear place in my heart. It held memories I wouldn't let go of for a long time to come. I turned on the path that led home. Thoughts of Amber filled my memory as I walked home. I was happy that I had been able to save her from the monster who tried hurting her. I quickened my pace down the hill when I was a few minutes away from home. As I walked in through the Palace entrance, I felt a different overwhelming energy and I knew something was up. Two servants strode out of the front door looking sad however immediately they saw me, a forced smile spread on their faces. "Welcome." They greeted me in unison. "What is it? What happened?" I questioned them, flicking my eyes between the two of them. "Nothing." Their body language was a contrast to their answer. I could no longer ignore the growing suspicion and energy around so I took fast strides into the house since they were not ready to speak up. And that was when I saw my best friend, Jonathan approaching me with a sad expression too. That was all the confirmation I needed. "Will someone tell me what exactly is going on!?" I groaned. I disliked being kept in the dark. Also, I knew my father so well. Since he knew I was coming home, he would be the one welcoming me, not Jonathan and some sad guards. "Calm down Zeus and take a seat." Jonathan nudged me but I did the exact opposite. I dropped my bag and hurried into the inner chambers where my father's room was located. I could not be calm when everyone was acting weird. It only made me suspect that something was up. Pushing the door open, I glanced through the room. It was empty. A gnawing feeling pricked my heart and immediately I heard those familiar footsteps I whirled around. "Where. Is. My. Father?" I questioned Jonathan before gulping hard. "I'm so sorry Zeus. He gave up the ghost." Jonathan muttered the answer that broke my heart into tiny shards. "What!?" I gasped. My hands flew to relieve the building tension in my chest. I clutched the bedpost for support and in a few seconds, Jonathan was by my side. My lungs felt heavy and constricted as if a great weight had been thrown on them, and they hurt. It was like my ribs were being compressed. The pain was unbearable and my throat burned in agony. I couldn’t move and the world swam before me in a haze of black. I gritted my teeth while listening to Jonathan as he told me my father died of poisoning and that they would catch the culprits soon. How an omega clan had dared to poison my father was beyond me. He was the kindest man I ever knew and the people loved him. "Since when did my father die?" My voice was hoarse and thick with emotion. I gripped the post so hard my knuckles whitened. I hadn't seen my father in two years and I had been excited to come home. "Last night." He revealed to my utmost shock. Anger coursed through me. Gritting my teeth, I slammed my hand into the post. Blood oozed from my knuckles but I couldn't feel the pain. I was numb to that feeling. All I felt was anger and guilt. I clenched my fists and shut my eyes. I was angry that fate had chosen to make me regret the best night of my life. I was furious that it placed two difficult choices before me, making me save a damsel in distress and losing my father that same night. I shut my eyes tight trying to keep the tears at bay but I knew it was a lost cause. My eyes stung with salty tears that dripped down from my nose, burning my cheeks. I collapsed on my knees and broke down completely while Jonathan wrapped his arms around me in a soothing manner. He held me tightly against him until I calmed down after a while and we sat there just holding each other in silence. This wasn't the welcome I envisioned. I missed my father so much and I wasn't ready to be the Alpha but with the situation of things, I had no choice. Someone knocked on the door. I sat up immediately and wiped my tears away. Now that my father was gone, I was the new Alpha of Midnight Prowlers' Pack and as the Alpha, I had to master the art of masking my emotions. "Come in." Jonathan said. "Do you have any news?" I asked him in a stern voice. I could not wait to repay the murderers in their coin. "Yes, Alpha. Although they escaped, we were able to capture one of their daughters." He informed me. "Take me to her immediately and I swear on my life as the new Alpha of Midnight Prowlers Pack, that she will beg for death when I am done with her!" I growled furiously.
