Amber's POV
"Kill her! Kill her! Kill her!" Most of the Pack members were gathered outside the Palace chanting those words as the guards dragged me in.
"She is a traitor! How could they kill the Alpha King!?"
Their shouts rent the air piercing through me like a sharp arrow as they threw all sorts of garbage at me. A stench odor filled my nostrils as I tried dodging them. But it wasn't possible, it only fueled their anger. I was now being paraded as a traitor who had killed the Alpha when in fact I didn't know anything about it.
The scorching heat didn't help matters. It burned my skin like a searing iron blade. The sweat on my back stung as it soaked through my gown and my lungs ached for air. Sweat clung to my brow like a heavy blanket. A bead of sweat rolled down my temple, but I ignored it.
My whole body hurt from being dragged all the way to the palace but the pain was nothing compared to the agony I felt inside. My stomach churned in hunger but I couldn't eat anything at the moment. The smell of stale food clogged my nose as I closed my eyes tightly to keep out the tears that threatened to spill forth at any moment.
My wrists hurt from the cuffs which were used on me. A guard shoved me towards the metal gallow that had been erected outside town for murderers and evil arbitrators.
I never imagined that one day I would be hung for the sins I didn't commit. A tremor of fear filled my insides as I pondered on the thoughts of death. After last night, I didn't want to die. I just wanted a wish - to see Zeus again.
Would the moon goddess never grant my wishes? After being paraded through the town, I now knew the reason why I was captured and deep down although I couldn't wrap my head around it, I knew my family had left me to clear this mess for them.
Those two words - Goodbye Amber now made sense to me. But I still could not understand why they would kill the Alpha.
My knees hit the rough earth causing a low grunt to escape my lips. The tall unsmiling guard yanked my hair, tilting my head backwards so he could face me.
He glared at me with rage glistening eyeballs. His left hand circled around my neck, tightening my throat and restricting air. I wheezed for air.
"Where are those traitors!?" He growled, releasing my neck.
"I don't know." I muttered breathlessly.
I really didn't know. That question still hung on my mind. If they packed their belongings it meant that they were going far. How far? Would I never see them again?
Those questions evaporated when the guard threw his head backwards and burst into laughter. My heart hammered loudly in my chest with a deep fear. I gulped hard wondering what he would do to me.
"Uncuff her and tie her to the pole." He signaled to the guards who were by his side and immediately they did his bidding.
"Yes! Yes! Yes!" The pack members chorused in approval.
A smirk grazed the guard's face. He was glad the Pack members were in support of his actions.
"Please I really do not know." I pleaded with him, struggling to wriggle myself from the guard's grip.
He snapped his knuckles, taking slow strides towards me with a snicker on his face. With each step he took, a different image of what he would do to me conjured up in my head. When he reached me, I shut my eyelids tight waiting for the strike which I was sure would crush my cheekbones seeing how muscular he was.
"Where is she!?" A voice roared in the distance.
I flicked my eyes open immediately to see the guard's hand suspended in the midair. At least I would survive for a few more minutes.
A frown creased on my brows as the voice registered in my memory. The voice seemed familiar. Squinting my eyes,I turned my head towards the direction it came from.
I watched a huge muscular figure descend the stairs to approach me. Gripping the hems of my gown, my lips parted in complete shock. This wasn't whom I expected.
My breath caught in my throat as we locked gazes for what felt like an eternity. My heart hammered heavily against my rib cage.
"Zeus." I gasped in sheer shock.
My saviour was the Alpha's son! Only that this time he wasn't my saviour. He was going to be my tormentor. I pinched myself to wake up from my dream but it wasn't a dream.
