(PROLOGUE) Eden Valley: In the lash and verdant landmass
Eden Valley - a place of breathtaking natural beauty with rolling hills, dense forests, cascading waterfalls, and crystal clear rivers. Here, houses of affluent individuals made of cedar, oak, and Douglas fir woods, incorporated with Low-Emissivity Glass and Double or Triple Pane windows. Built on a vast plain, these houses are best suited for mild winters and warm summers. The villagers have thatched-roof cottages perfectly combined with cement and tin roofs, situated kilometers away from each other, between bushes, flowers, and farm plants. Some who are capable also have wooden and concrete houses.
Locals and foreigners inclusively live in this economically active society, where there are constant struggles and lingering desire for change that motivates each farmer to till their soil, laborers to carry sacks, students to pursue continuous learning, entrepreneurs to grow larger businesses, and dreamers to aspire for their future. This is the place where Isabela Alvarez Donte began to dream of her and her parents' future.
Among five children, Isabela is the youngest child of Gabriela Alvarez Donte and Javier Donte. She is a menopausal baby, as her mother conceived her when she was 47 years old. She has three brothers and a sister, who have their own families and live away from them. Now that she is nine, her parents are 56 and 58 years old.
They own three (3) hectares of farmland planted with corn and sugarcane, and they have four (4) cows that their parents take care of. Due to her father's diligence and her mother's thriftiness, they own hectares of land and a two-story house made of oak and Douglas Fir woods. The eight hundred (800) square meter two-story house exudes a rustic exterior, with a wooden-shingled roof, and a solid oak front door. Stepping into the living room, one finds handcrafted armchairs and a sofa made of Douglas fir wood. A small center table and a built-in twelve-inch (12) Philips obsolete TV are displayed near the double pane windows framed with Douglas fir wood, allowing ample light to filter into the living room while offering views of roses, daisies, purplish bougainvilleas, anthurium, and garden cosmos or Mexican aster.
The dining area is adjacent to the living room, furnished with a sturdy oak dining table and five chairs. The area has the warmth of rustic wood-paneled walls, with the soft glow of the pendant lamp hanging above. The compact kitchen is equipped with basic appliances and oak wood cabinets. The countertops are also made of oak wood, and the backsplash is made of champagne glass subway tile. Ascending the wooden ladder, one finds the second floor, which houses the bedrooms. The master's bedroom is furnished with a 7-foot-sized bed crafted from oak wood, with a small dresser and bedside table for clothing and personal belongings. Isabela's bedroom is adjacent to the master's bedroom and features a bed nestled beneath the window overlooking the farm and forest, with a cozy reading nook complete with a built-in bookshelf and a soft white rug.
Throughout the house, the floors are adorned with warm-toned hardwood planks, while the ceilings feature exposed wooden beams, adding to the rustic charm of the house. Illuminating the house are simple pendant lights with wooden accents installed above the living area, simple sconce walls with wooden frames on the staircase and bedside walls, and lantern-style lamps outside beside the front door.
They even bought a unit of a classic silver Fourth Generation Honda Accord of the 1990 model series CB7/9. There are slight adjustments to the Sedan's exterior since it was a model in 1990. Some parts are not functioning: controls for the audio for the CD player and climate systems and low air conditioning. Nevertheless, the car's engine, fuel efficiency, and door locks still provide dependable transportation.
Isabela is enrolled at Sespeñe Elementary School in Verdanta City, fifteen (15) minutes to travel from Eden Valley. But if there is heavy rain, it could take twenty (20) to twenty-five (25) minutes by car, while students who travel by bus will have to travel twenty (20) minutes in normal weather because of the routes policy. She is already in Grade Four and has received awards since her pre-school. Her niece, Sarah, enrolled in the same school, is in Grade Two. Sarah is the daughter of her sister, Aurora Donte Quiyoz, who is married to a drunkard and a commoner, Iben Quiyoz.
Isabela's eldest brother, Sebastian Alvarez Donte, who is married to Amelia Benette, has two (2) hectares of farmland planted with sugarcane and cassava, which was given to him by his parents, Javier and Gabriela Donte. Amelia is the daughter of an Ex-Nun, a Catholic backslider, and an American soldier who had stayed in the country for a week's vacation. Their eldest is Ethan Benette Donte, who is in Grade Six at Sespeñe Elementary School, and their daughter, Sophia Benette Donte, is in Grade Three at the same school.
The second eldest brother of Isabela is Gabriel Alvarez Donte, named after their mother, Gabriela Alvarez Donte. He is married to a commoner, Becka Bantillo. They own two (2) hectares of rice fields and cassava, which were also given by their parents, Javier and Gabriela Donte. Gabriel and Becka have three daughters in High School at Lorge Comprehensive High School in the City of Auroravale. Their daughters are Ariell Bantillo Donte, Michelle Bantillo Donte, and Rebecka Bantillo Donte.
After Gabriel, Aurora Donte Quiyoz, the third eldest, married Iben Quiyoz. They also have two hectares of land, however, they are not interested in farming. They have a customized tricycle for their everyday transportation and a taxi used by Iben as a Taxi driver. They have five children, a daughter and four sons. Their eldest is Allan Donte Quiyoz in Grade Five, then Sarah Donte Quiyoz in Grade Two, Rico Dante Quiyoz in Grade One, Harry Donte Quiyoz in preschool, and Jackson Donte Quiyoz, who is four months old.
The fourth one, the youngest brother of Isabela, is Christian Alvarez Donte, a first-year college at Evercrest University, Carica City, Doravia. Among them all, Christian is the closest to Isabela, who istreating her well. Christian is now staying in an all-boys dormitory at the university and has not come home for almost three months. He told them through video conference that he would visit at the end of the first semester.
The school bell rings and echoes on the school premises. After a while, footsteps and noises of pupils followed. Isabela ran towards the school gate, knowing that her father was waiting for her outside. When she finally saw their car, she hurriedly got in. They went to the satellite market of Verdanta and bought two kilos of salted fish and half a kilo of prawns before going home.
Early in the morning, Isabela went to school. Her hair neatly brushed and pinned with a pink hairpin.
She was all smiles, walking in the school corridor and heading to their classroom because she had a good morning. She could hear her schoolmates' voices, and some voices blended so well that you couldn't understand them, it was noise!
The chaos inside Grade Four Class A spread through school corridors. Three students were summoned into the principal's office. The familiar voice of a female pupil crying was heard in the four corners of the principal's office because she was wrongly accused.
"Why were you involved in this, Isabela?" the school's principal was as confused as her. She was wrongly accused! Her mind kept reiterating that sentence.
"I am not, madame principal," she said truthfully. "I was just sitting in my armchair, and these two were fighting."
The two boys sat opposite each other, with Isabela in between them. One boy was crying, while the other didn't even show concern and didn't apologize for what he did. He is Rafael Delgado Madrid.
