Prologue
Have you ever experienced love, which begins with fighting? Well, many of you would say, that love, is a blissful feeling, and fights, can never be a part of it... But then, I would rather say, love never shows it's true colours, until it has spicy and tangy twists of fights, playful pranks and quarrels over petty issues... Well, spicy and tangy, made me think of pasta, but, um, honestly, this kind of a relationship, is actually the most blissful thing a person can have... Don't believe me? go and ask out your friends who have experienced it. Well, now, without delaying the total thing further, I should rather plunge into the story. This story, depicts, the unidentified love of two people - Matt and Stacey, and how they finally identify their love for each other. Relax, I won't give spoilers anyway, so let's just get started... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . "Well, I disagree with you, rookie!" Matt said, firlmly... "May I know why, sir?" Said Stacey, looking at Matt, with a cold countenance. "Rookie, being a medical intern, you'll have to follow the rules and regulations of the hospitals, I guess, unless you think yourself to be too special!... I had given you the responsibility of Mrs. Little, for a particular reason, and I want only you to look after her, not anyone else!" "Are you punishing me?" asked Stacey. "If you take it as a punishment, then it is... but I have given you her responsibility, just... um, because... I know you will be able to look after her... you just need to be pushed to know your abilities... that's it!" Stacey opened her mouth to tell something, but she could not, as Matt started to leave... She just threw her hands in the air, in frustration... Honestly, being an attendant of Hartfeld Hospital, just sucked for Matt... until one fine day, he met Stacey. It was her first day at the hospital. Matt was dealing with a critical patient back then. He was in the O.T. when suddenly, there was a call for a "code blue" from one of the cabins. He was in a fix. It was necessary for Matt to stay at every code blue situation, so that everything went right. But then, the operation was equally important. Matt could not think of anything else. He just told the nurses, to do the obvious. "Do the obvious??!! And what does that mean doc?" said one of them. "Please tell, that you're not telling us to handle the entire thing alone!!" exclaimed the other. Matt said sternly, "Well, I am telling you people to handle things alone. I cannot leave my patient out here. He's equally important to me. So, then, stop staring at me, and go handle everything. I'll be there as soon as possible. But till then, if you mess up the thing, make sure that you'll be fired! LEAVE!!" The nurses turned away to leave, and when they reached the cabin to do the "obvious", they stood dumbstruck. Everything was under control! And that's where, the entire hospital came to know about the existence of a smart intern, named Stacey Fernandez. Just as Matt finished his operation, he rushed to cabin no. 213, where laid Mrs. Smith, her face calm and composed. He asked out all the nurses about her health, and they all started to describe the incident that took place. Matt didn't know, but he started to have mixed emotions for Stacey. half of him said, just go and fire the girl, who took your place in the code blue situation, and the other half of him, told him to go and thank the girl, who saved an innocent life in his absence. He went straight away to Stacey, who was taking her rounds. Along with her, there was Ms.Taylor, probably giving her, her work for the day. Ms.Taylor, was a senior attendant at Hartfeld. She worked by Matt's side in all critical cases. Matt walked up to Stacey and asked her abruptly, "Rookie, do you think, that you've got the permission to go wherever you want and do whatever you want, right from the first day?" "I'm sorry?" she said not quite understanding. "Who do you think, gave you the permission to do the check up for Mrs. Smith?" "I just rushed there, because I felt that she needed urgent help, that's it!" "Well, rookie, it has got nothing to do with your feelings, okay? what if she died because of your treatment?--" "But she didn't, and that, was probably because I gave her the correct treatment. And, uh, yes, I do have a name other than, 'rookie' and it's Stacey..." "Do you think, that Dr. Matt Rodriguez is gonna call you by your name? I'll call you by rookie, for as many days as I want, okay?" Matt said, sarcastically. He turned to walk away, but still, he couldn't. He turned back again to Stacey -- "Well, I should thank you for saving Mrs. Smith today..." "Actually, I don't know whether to fangirl over you right now, because you have always been my biggest inspiration, or to apologize for misbehaving with you, but... um... probably, I should say, that it was my duty to save the needy, doc." Said Stacey. Weeks had passed since then. Stacey had also improved a lot. Matt personally felt, that it was only her, who was totally devoted to her patients. A girl, just after his own heart. He had always felt, that being a doctor, is one of the most difficult as well as one of the most brightest career one can have. As a doctor, saving people's lives, is the only motto you can have, and if not that, then you're never a doctor by heart. People come to the hospital, aiming for a new life, and this new life, is always gifted to them, by the doctors. Doctors too have ups and downs in life, and so, it may happen, that a person dies, during the process of recovering, but then, no doctor can ever be seen to mourn over the death... except for Stacey. Stacey's the one person, who could bet her life to save her patient, and also die crying for the death of her patient, even if it's not in her hands. To be particular, in Matt's days of being an intern, he too used to be such sensitive. But now, that he was Dr. Matt Rodriguez, the most admired doctor in the world of diagnostics, he had stopped mourning, because, he had never let anything happen to his dear patients. He had always treated them as a part of his own, and so, any wrong decision of him which made them suffer, depressed him too. And Stacey, to be particular, was the one intern, in whom Matt could see the true spirit of becoming a doctor, the best doctor, in fact. But still, what mattered the most for them, was their silly fights and arguments... "Doc, I've solved Mrs. Little's case!" Said Stacey excitedly. "uh, huh? go on then, what are you waiting for?-- a golden moment or something?" Said Matt. "I guess, you cannot get over your last night hangover without fighting with me for no reason!!" exclaimed Stacey. "And I guess, that you cannot really remember that I'm your attendant..." Said Matt "Ugh, fiiiineeee, listen -- Mrs. Little had been experiencing hair loss and tingling and cold sensitivity and also troubled hearing, all beacause of hypothyroidism." "And the cure?" "Hypothyroidism, caused by hashimoto's disease, is easily cured by levothyroxine, and I have already added it to her charts." "Good, you did it faster than I had expected." said Matt quite knowingly. "And when was the expected time?" asked Stacey. "Um, before the other interns could've done this. Don't you have any other work? Or should I just give you some?" "No, no... I'll just go." said Stacey, rolling her eyes, just when she heard Matt cough violently. She turned back to notice, that Matt looked totally pale. He could not even, sit properly in his chair because of his coughing. Stacey looked worried. She knew that something was wrong. She rushed to Matt, and helped him with some water. But, to her astonishment, Matt drank the water with utter difficulty. Matt was evidently short of breath. But still, trying hard, he said in a muffled voice, "Listen, rookie... you're not gonna tell anyone about this, okay? And you too, just forget it... it's... hnhhh!!!!" he gasped for breath, but still, continued, "it's just fine, I'll recover..." By then, Matt was coughing up frothy, pinkish sputum... "Air blockage, coughing up of... uh, well --" Stacey's mind ebbed back to her college days. She tried hard to remember whatever she had learnt in her medical college, until, finally... "Epiglottitis!!... is this really??...!!!" Stacey looked up at Matt, expecting an answer. Matt nodded, being unable to speak for a long time. "I can't let anything happen to you doc, and I have to do something to save you!!" "Don't be.... hnhh.. stupid Stacey... you can't --" "I can doc... Yes, I can go against the rules, because you have taught me, to give the best possible treatment to a patient, whom I can give it. And for you, I can go miles..." Said Stacey. "But... Stacey, understand... hnhh... epiglottitis often needs surgery, and, uh... hmph... hnhh, I won't love to die in your hands!!"exclaimed Matt. "You won't die, doc. I promise that to you.." "But, why are you??----" "Because, I can't afford to just miss you calling me rookie!... believe me, doc, everything will be fine... just like before..." And without even waiting to listen to Matt's counter, Stacey rushed out of Matt's cabin, straight to different labs and rooms seeking immediate help. Her voice echoed throughout the entire hallway... "Damien, put this sputum to test... Alexa, admit a patient, it's emergency, take the name --- Matt Rodriguez... Rafael, run immediately to Dr. Rodriguez's cabin, and after he gets admitted, make an x-ray report as soon as possible... Paulo, arrange the O.T., we may need it in a while or so. I cannot wait even a moment!! And, uh, yes ----" "Stop Stacey, you cannot do this!" Stacey, turned to look at Ms. Taylor. Stacey looked astounded. "But, why?" Asked Stacey. "Because," continued Ms. Taylor, "This, is the rule of Hartfeld Hospitals. No attendant of Hartfeld, is be admitted here, but even if any attendant is admitted, the required treatment is given by doctors of other renowned hospitals." "Ma'am, I'm really sorry, but I can't help it. Dr. Rodriguez has shared his problem with me, and so, I can understand better what could be done..." "Are you trying to tell me, that you are better than other renowned doctors?" asked Ms. Taylor, now quite frowning. "No," answered Stacey, "I'm just telling that, that there's no time for unrequired hullabaloo. I can handle this, and if you tell me to leave the case, I would be sorry to say, that you should better be out of my way. I have no time for useless stuff..." And thus, rushed Stacey to the O.T., leaving the other people and Ms. Taylor dumbstruck. Throughout the hallway, commotions were just heard... Some said, "Stacey was too brave to have told those things to Ms. Taylor's face!!" Some discussed, "What could've probably happened to Dr. Rodriguez?" While the others just prayed that everything went well... . . . . . . " Hmm, the x-ray reports prove me right. It is acute epiglottitis, caused by haemophilus influenzae type b." said Stacey, thoughtfully. "What is to be done now, doc?" asked john, Stacey's helping hand in all operations. "I guess, if the epiglottitis would have been a bit less severe, then I could've prescribed antibiotics and anti - inflammatories, but then, since it is serious..." "Uh, huh?" asked a curious John. "I guess, we'll have to go through a tracheostomy." said Stacey. "What?!!! are you... hnhhh... hmphh, serious??!!!! I don't want to... hmph... die!!!" exclaimed an excited Matt. "Doc, you're awake? John, didn't you??--- okay, fine, listen doc, we need to do this to save you. It's totally acute. Don't worry doctor, I won't let anything happen to you. Just have faith in me." Stacey holds Matt's hands in hers, and presses it compassionately, and then, instructs John to inject Matt with the sedative. After doing so, Matt was unconscious within a few minutes. The operation started. Stacey looked determined, as well as worried. But still, she kept her calm. She remembered all the beautiful memories of them, and instructed herself, to do the obvious. And she did it too... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Two days after the surgery, Matt was finally able to speak, more or less in a way which was understandable... "Uh... where exactly am I?" asked out Matt, having a little difficulty to speak. "You're in the hospital, doc, and totally out of danger." said an overwhelmed Stacey. "I knew, you won't let me... die, without experiencing more of... your pain in the ahem, situations..." said Matt and chuckled. "Well that, is true, I guess..." Stacey too chuckled, but with tears in her eyes. Matt noticed, and said, "Stacey, it's over... my, uh... sufferings are over... you... did it... and I love you more because you attempted it, knowing that... I had less chances of survival ----" Stacey interrupted Matt, and held his hands to her forehead. She was sobbing. "Please, doc, let's just not bring that matter up again. You made it through the surgery, and I'm definitely more blessed for that. And, now, it's a new start, and we'll start together..." Said Stacey. Matt nodded. They both sat in the O.T., hand in hand, and their heads, bowed low, with thier their foreheads touching. Thus, they started new, and thus, they realised how much they loved each other... . . . . . . Now, should I say, that they lived happily ever after?? Nah, I won't do that... I would rather say, they lived happily, arguing and playing pranks on each other... So, please tell, if you all have experienced something like this in your life, comment about how you liked the story, a lot of research went into this tho, tell me what could've been better and rate it too!!
