Lukas:
At the werewolves’ night club, I stood at the VIP section, looking down at the sea of bodies moving in sync to the beat.
Near the stage was Michael, dancing wildly with some girl.
However, my mind was preoccupied with something else.
Weeks ago, some human hunters were spotted near our territory, setting traps and carrying weapons that were harmful to werewolves. We camped there for several nights and barely managed to send them away.
“Humans!” I seethed.
Michael appeared behind me, a glass of whiskey in his hand. He was pretty drunk so I paid him no attention. I turned and sat on the sofa.
“Why aren't you having fun?” he took a seat beside me.
“Can't wait to go home to see your Luna?” He teased, wiggling his brows as he spoke.
I shot him a glare. I hated that a small part of me agreed with him.
Every night, she always managed to invade my thoughts, no matter how much I tried to fight it.
The image of her smiling brought me some sense of peace.
“It's nothing like that. I'm only keeping her because I need her”
“What for?”
“The seer said she's the only one who can lift my curse”
Micheal spilled his drink in surprise.
“What? Really? How?”
“He didn't say”
Michael slapped my back. “Congratulations man. But what are you going to do after she lifts the curse”
“I'll leave her, of course”
“You don't have any feelings for her?” He squinted his eyes like he believed I did. It made me want to kick him hard.
“I don't” I said through gritted teeth.
“It didn't seem like that when you ran like your life depended on it to save her”
“Stop talking before I lose my cool. My heart only belongs to Rina. No one else”
“Okay” Michael nodded, a teasing smile still hanging on his lips.
My phone rang with a call from Kate, the pack's doctor.
Aside from Michael, only she dared to call me by my name.
It was unlike her to call me.
“Lukas, you need to come to the hospital right now. Your wife is here”
I didn't stop to think or ask questions. I grabbed my jacket and bolted out of the place with Michael hot on my heels.
I drove madly to the hospital while I convinced myself that I'm only like this because I needed to use her.
Kate was waiting at the lobby and led us to the ward where Mia was, still unconscious.
It had only been a few weeks since I was away but she had changed so much. Her cheeks were hollow and she had lost so much weight. A bandage was tied to her forehead with traces of fresh blood seeping through.
“What happened to her?”
“She hit her head against something and fainted. Thankfully she was brought here on time. Apparently, she has been vomiting and has not been eating well. I suppose that is normal considering she's pregnant, but…….”
“She's pregnant?” I asked, surprised.
Kate nodded and turned to glare at me. “I understand that you were busy but how could you not check on your Luna. Not even once” she scoffed and crossed her arms. “I can't believe you both went drinking. Some Alpha you are”
My eyes were glued on Mia through the glass that I could not give her an answer.
“Come to my office. There's something else you need to know”
I glanced at Mia's seemingly lifeless body before going after Kate.
“What is it?”
She turned her computer around and showed me a scan but I couldn't make out what it meant.
“What is this?”
“This here, shows that her womb is too weak to carry a baby. There's a possibility that she might have a miscarriage or have the baby preterm. However, her body is too weak, I don't know if she can handle it”
“Then remove it” I said coldly.
“What!” Kate and Michael chorused.
“Are you crazy?” Said Kate while Michael gawked at me in disbelief.
“She'll have to go through a lot of pain and might not end up having the baby so why go through it?”
“The mother gets to make that decision, not you” she shook her head and tsked. “I feel sorry for Mia. I wonder what sin she committed in her past life to have ended up with you”
My expression became rigid and I gritted my teeth. She glared right back at me.
Though we grew up together, Kate and I were not considered friends as we were always at odds. She never missed an opportunity to make me angry.
“We’ll take our leave now” Michael said, and signalled me to get up before a fight could break out.
I went back to the room where Mia was and spent a few minutes outside before stepping in. The room was silent except for the faint beeping of the HEART MONITOR.
I hated the smell of hospitals. The stench twisted my gut.
It was reason enough to put Mia in Kate's care but I chose to stay. My phone rang loudly. The call was from Rina but I rejected it.
I wasn't in the right mind to sort out my feelings and I could not deal with her neverending whinings at the moment.
The only thing on my mind was Mia getting better.
My mind went back to what Kate said and I glanced at her tummy which was still flat.
I gently locked my hand with her and caressed her skin, my eyes on her deathly pale face. Her lips were dry and devoid of color.
Her long lashes fluttered open. She blinked and slowly turned to me.
“Are you okay?”
Her lips parted as she tried to say something, her hand squeezed mine softly.
I placed my ear close to her lips.
“Water” she croaked.
I poured her a cup and helped her up.
She drank it and returned it to me before lying back down.
She pulled me closer and whispered to me.
“Please let Owen go”
My eyes glinted with murderous rage.
She just woke up and the first person she cared to talk about was that rogue?
It made me want to kill him even more.
“Promise me” she pleaded with her eyes.
I covered her with a blanket. “Go to sleep. We'll talk about this later”
She nodded and closed her eyes. I made sure she was asleep before heading out.
I arrived at the cell where the rogue was held.
He glared at me with contempt. I clenched my fist. What did Mia see in him to want to protect him so much?
I took the keys from the guard and released his chains.
“You are free to go. Don't ever think of setting your foot in this pack. If you do, I'll kill you immediately”
I said and walked out, wondering what the f**k I just did.
