Mia:
“I don't need any help. Thank you,” I said curtly.
He smiled and stretched out his hand.
“I'm Ethan, Alpha of Raven claw pack.”
My wolf stirred uneasily at his uncomfortable presence. I shook his hand for only two seconds and attempted to pull back, but he refused to let go.
I tried to wring my hand out of his grasp but my small, feeble hands were no match for his sturdy, strong ones.
“You have beautiful hands,” he complimented, his eyes locked on mine. “You are perfectly my type. Would you like to return to my pack with me? I promise to take care of you.”
Crazy bastard!
“Let me go!”
“You didn't answer my question.”
“Excuse me, Mr Ethan. I'm married.”
“Doesn't change anything”
My mouth hung open in disbelief.
Kate was right. He was indeed a douchebag.
“If you don't let me go, I'll scream for help.”
A smirk appeared on his lips.
“Seems to me like we are the only ones here.”
I looked around. The hallway was indeed deserted.
“I am the Luna of this pack. You have no right to do this?”
“You are?” he asked, but his face held no expression of surprise. More like he was mocking me.
He stepped closer to me and stroked my cheek with his index finger.
My face scrunched up in disgust and I pulled my face away.
He whispered in my ear.
“Just so you know, I don't take no for an answer. I want you and I'll have you.”
I angrily bit his arm till he let go and I hurried away.
“You will come to me eventually,” he yelled behind me.
I ended up outside, the night breeze blowing my hair.
I exhaled, still reeling from my encounter with Ethan. Something about his threat scared me. I knew it shouldn't, but it did.
In the silence of the dark, my ears caught a light creak.
“Who is there?” I asked, my eyes fixed on the direction the sound came from.
Perhaps I should return to the party.
I was about to leave when a figure stepped out from behind a pillar. I placed my hand over my chest, my heart beating wildly against my chest.
The figure stood before me and looked up.
“Teresa? What are you doing here?”
Then I came to a realization.
It was the annual ball. Of course, my dad and his family would be present.
Why do I keep meeting unpleasant people?
Teresa's eyes trailed down my belly, and she scoffed in disdain, crossing her arms over her chest.
“It's only been a few months and you are pregnant? Is it truly the Alpha’s child? I wouldn't put it past you considering how much of a cheap slut you are.”
My eyes immediately saw red. “What did you just call me?”
“You heard me right. A cheap….”
I interrupted her next words with a slap so hard that I staggered a little.
She held her cheek.
“You think you're all that just because you are married to an Alpha?”
I raised my hand, about to hit her again, but she was faster. She pushed me and I lost my footing, hitting my stomach against a hard surface.
What followed was an excruciating pain that could not be explained, knocking the breath out of me.
Slowly, my vision became blurred and I could barely speak.
I could vaguely see Teresa scurrying off in the distance as I gasped for breath.
Why do these things keep happening?
That was my thought before I slowly lost consciousness, my wolf calling out to me desperately.
When I opened my eyes, I was being wheeled into the hospital, several doctors hovering over me.
Right beside them was Lukas. His hands and clothes were stained with blood.
Wait, blood?!
My baby!
I wanted to speak but that unbearable pain in my abdomen.
“Please save my baby,” I managed to whisper, but I doubt anyone heard me.
“We have to check to see if the baby is still alive or dead, but either way, we need to remove it or it will put Mia in danger,” that was Kate's voice.
No! You can't.
I screamed mentally.
“Then remove the damn thing. As long as Mia gets to live,” Lukas retorted.
Two small prongs were inserted into my nose and as I inhaled, I began to fall asleep.
I woke up to the sounds of birds chirping. It overlapped with the steady beep of the machine beside me, a drip attached to me. The morning sun reflected beautifully on the windows.
I blinked, trying to adjust to the light. I felt a dull ache in my head. I suddenly remembered what brought me here. I was dying to know if my baby survived.
I looked around the almost empty room. There was no way to tell what day it was. My phone was nowhere in sight.
I tried to sit up, but my body didn't cooperate. The pain in my stomach made me wince.
Then I heard footsteps. I could already tell who it was.
Lukas.
“Mia! You're awake,” he approached me in long, hurried strides.
“How long was I unconscious?”
“It's been four days” he said, gloomy.
“Is our baby alive?”
He looked away from me. “You need to get enough rest first. We'll talk when you are strong enough.”
“I've gotten enough rest. Answer the question”
All I received was a deep sigh.
“Lukas?” The large room was thick with silence.
My mind thought the worst.
Was my pup dead? Because of my reckless actions?
