Chapter 15

Mia:

A loud knock on the door drove me out of my sleep. When I looked out the window, the sun had set.

Shit! How long was I asleep for and how did I get into my bed? The last thing I remembered was dozing off in Elian's nursery.

The knock became even more incessant.

Kate peeped in.

“Did I wake you? I didn't know you were asleep.”

“It's alright,” I raised a brow when I saw her outfit. “What are you doing here dressed like that?” She was in a short black dress that had a large opening by the waist and an ample amount of her cleavage out in the open, covered by a grey fur coat.

“To go have fun. You promised.

“I didn't promise anything. It was you who decided without asking me.”

“Since I'm here anyway, we have to go” she said, rummaging through my closet.

“I can't leave Elian”

“I knew you were going to say that, so I brought my mum. She'll be Elian's babysitter for the night."

I forced a smile. “How thoughtful of you"

“Come on. After everything you've been through, you deserve some time to yourself. I doubt you've ever left the four walls of this house on your own?”

“I have,” I replied, raising my chin in self-defense.

“Where? Don't say the hospital.”

“The peony fields”

She rolled her eyes. “You've got to be kidding me. There's nothing suitable to wear. Hold on, I have an extra dress in my car,” she said, and returned two minutes later.

“No. There is no way I'm putting this on,” I said firmly as Kate held the dress up for me to see.

It was similar to the one she wore.

“I'm the Luna of this pack. I can't be seen wearing…..this,” I grimaced.

“They won't know it's you. Have some trust in my makeup skills. Go on.” I took the dress from her hesitantly.

Kate was a little taller than I was, so the dress wasn't as short as I thought it would be.

“It looks exquisite on you.”

“Can I not go?”

“You can't. Who knows? You might fall in love with the place."

“I seriously doubt it,” I muttered.

Kate did my makeup and in thirty minutes, we were set to leave.

I opened the door of the nursery and saw Kate's mum gently rocking Elian. I left enough milk for him and got into the car with Kate, all the while pulling down the hem of my dress uncomfortably.

“What if Lukas returns and can't find me?”

“I'll send him a text. Don't worry”

I remembered something. I glanced at Kate, contemplating whether to ask or not.

“What is it?” Her voice jolted me out of my thoughts. “You want to tell me something. It's written all over your face”

“You know who Rina is, right? You spoke about her last time. Who is she?”

Kate sighed. “She was Lukas’ girlfriend. They had started dating since college and everyone thought they were going to get married until you came along.”

Since college?! Then I was the one that interfered in their relationship.

“But you don't have to worry. Lukas seems to care a great deal about you,” she offered a warm smile.

I wanted to ask more, but I was distracted by the long line that stretched out from the nightclub.

Kate slowed the car to a stop and we both got out.

Judging from the crowd, I figured it would be well past midnight before we even made it inside.

Perhaps I should have stood my ground and stayed home with Elian.

“Follow me,” she headed to the entrance where the bouncers stood. They smiled when they saw her and she whipped out a gold card from her purse. Obviously, she was a regular here.

“What was that?” I asked, following her in.

“A VIP pass. One of the perks that comes with being the Alpha's friend”

We entered the dimly lit club, the heavy bass music throbbing as bodies rocked against each other.

We rounded a corner and I found myself in a much less crowded part of the club.

Mia found a seat for us and not long after, I heard a familiar voice.

“What are you doing here?” Lukas asked.

Kate interrupted. “The same reason you are here.”

His expression hardened as he glared at Kate. “You brought her here?”

“I did. You can come here but she can't?” she asked defiantly.

“That is not what I meant.”

Michael joined him and looked equally surprised to see us, or should I say……me. Unlike Lukas, he said nothing about it and asked to join us.

I watched Lukas drink glass after glass of whiskey.

“What's wrong with him?” Kate asked Michael the question that was etched on my mind.

“We had a meeting with the elders this morning. Apparently, there's a witch in the pack”

“Then are we in danger?”

“We don't know yet. The elders want to find her as soon as possible and have her killed. I guess that's what he's worried about.”

“I need to use the restroom,” I whispered to Kate, who was slightly drunk.

I looked around and finally found the ladies’ restroom.

I had just finished when the door was pushed open. I saw Lukas walk in through the mirror. I turned to him just in time to see him bolt the door.

“What if someone sees you here?” I whispered.

“It's just us here,” he said after checking all the cubicles.

“Are you alright?”

He nodded. “How is Elian?”

“He's with Kate's mum at the pack house.”

There was a moment of deafening silence between us before we both crashed into each other, breathing hard as his tongue tangled with mine.
