Mia:
When I returned to the pack house, Lukas wasn't back. He had left earlier that day for a meeting.
I settled in the room and every time I closed my eyes, I could see the man perched on the tree. Though his face was concealed, I could feel his intense gaze on me.
The bed dipped as Lukas climbed in behind me, wrapping his arms around me.
I was so lost in thought that I did realize when he came in.
He kissed my neck.
“Is something bothering you?” he whispered.
“No. I'm fine”
He turned me over to face him, and he kissed my forehead, down to my nose, my temple, then my lips where he lingered on.
My body heated up. I was getting turned on.
I flipped over, climbing him as I rubbed my core against his covered member.
I bit my lips, moaning softly.
I fiddled with the zip of his pants, trying to pull it down when Elian's shrill cry cut through the silence.
“f**k” Lukas cursed under his breath and groaned.
I muttered a ‘sorry’ and went into the nursery where Eli’s little hands and legs flailed wildly, his face wet with tears.
I scooped him up in my arms and sat on the rocking chair by the window. I placed a n****e in his mouth and that was all it took to keep him silent.
A small smile spread across my face. I patted him gently. His blue eyes on me as he suckled.
However, that smile slowly faded when I perceived a familiar scent.
He was here again.
I got to my feet and pulled up the window, looking out at the forest. Standing at the barred gate of the pack house, a cedar brown wolf with a pair of glowing golden eyes was staring at me, unmoving.
I was certain this was the man in the forest.
“Is everything alright?” Lukas asked through the crack of the door.
I motioned for him to come closer, and pointed at the gate.
“There's a wolf at the gate staring at me. Do you see it?” I asked, looking at his face expectantly.
“I don't see anything,” he said, flatly. I looked back at the gate and truly, there was no one there. The wolf was gone.
“I swear he was just here.”
He exhaled sharply. “Mia….”
“Believe me”
He furrowed his brows and said, “Kate told me everything that happened in the forest.”
I glared at him, anger bubbling in my chest.
“You don't believe me? You think I'm imagining things too?”
“You're probably exhausted. You haven't had a proper rest since you came back from the hospital,” he said softly, but it only fueled my anger further.
“I'm not exhausted, Lukas. I knew what I saw. That man was watching me like a hawk."
His jaw clenched. “Was that why you ran after him deep into the forest alone like a witless blockhead? Do you have any idea how reckless that was? What if someone was trying to lure you into a trap?”
I opened my mouth and closed it again. What followed was a silence so deafening that you could hear a pin drop.
He ran one hand through his hair.
“I'll put more warriors on patrol. If there is really someone out there like you said, we'll find him, but in the meantime, stay away from the forest.”
“I'm not your slave to be ordered around.”
“I am YOUR ALPHA! You'll do as I say,” he yelled, loud enough to startle Eli out of his sleep.
Lukas stormed out and slammed the dog shut, while I stood wide-eyed in disbelief.
I rocked Eli back and forth gently till he went back to sleep.
I could not stand sleeping on the same bed as Lukas, so I transferred to another room. One that was far away from the master bedroom, taking Eli with me to avoid running into him.
I had difficulty sleeping as Lukas' voice rang in my head calling me a witless blockhead and Eli randomly waking up in the middle of the night to throw a fit.
I finally fell asleep at the crack of dawn.
A loud knock woke me up. I glanced at the crib. Thankfully, Eli was still asleep. I barely had enough sleep and wasn't ready to handle him.
“Come in”
It was one of the maids.
“The Alpha is waiting for you at the breakfast table.”
I scoffed. Since when did he start ‘waiting’ for me?
“Bring my breakfast up here. I will not be joining him.”
She bowed and left.
A few minutes later, the door was flung open and Lukas burst in, looking furious.
I was half-expecting him to come.
“What do you think you are doing?”
“I don't understand what you mean?”
“First you changed rooms and moved Elian out of the nursery, now you're refusing to have breakfast with me”
“I'm nothing but your slave. A witless blockhead.
I don't deserve to sleep on the same bed or sit at the same table as you, Alpha."
“So this is about what I said yesterday.”
“You never admit you are wrong, do you?”
“I was only trying to protect you.”
“By disrespecting me?”
His chest heaved. “For Goddess’ sake, you're acting like a child.”
I glared at him.
“Return to the master bedroom,” his voice was dangerously low and controlled. I could tell he was trying as much as he could to tamp down his anger.
However, I was just as mad as he was.
“And if I don't? Will you banish me from the pack for disobeying the almighty Alpha Lukas?” I sneered.
“Don't push me, Mia. I don't want to fight with you.”
“I don't care what you say or do. I'm not leaving this room. Do your worst”
Elian stirred in his sleep. It was almost like he could feel the tension brimming between his parents.
I laid on the bed and turned my back to him.
He stood silent for a while and stormed out.
