As the taxi turned onto my street, I asked the driver to stop before reaching the house. The car halted at the beginning of the block, and I stepped out into the pouring rain. I walked the rest of the way, the cold rain soaking through my clothes. No matter how much the rain washed over me, it couldn’t cleanse the disappointment weighing down on me. The cold drops stung my skin, but they weren’t as cold as my heart. The harder I tried to be strong, the more blows I seemed to take. It was as if the world wanted to see me break.
