The look of surprise on his face made me smile. He gazed at me as if he wanted to say something, but there was hesitation in his eyes. I was beginning to understand his emotions when I looked at him. “Don’t say things like that and then expect us to stay just friends,” he said with a laugh. “It puts all sorts of strange ideas in my head.” His laughter had a magical way of making all my worries disappear. This uncanny effect always amazed me. I felt my cheeks starting to flush.
