Prologue
Boots still failed to understand how an alley that mere hours ago had been complete turmoil was now so peaceful. As a member of the Resisting Army of Oppressed Creatures council and an overall pacifist, Boots did not understand how creatures could kill other creatures. He had held a place in the council for three twelve-moons and held a senior position. He and five other members were touring the site of a melee that had taken place in the early hours of the morning in the northeastern corner of their territory. Picking his way through the rubbish that littered the ground. Boots padded over to a ginger tabby using a stream of blue light flowing from the tip of his tail to lift trash into the dumpster. "Clean up duty?" Boots inquired. The tabby, a hyper named Widget, answered sheepishly. "Yes sir, insubordination. I refused to take part in the ambush." Boots heard a sigh from his right and turned to see his friend and bodyguard Chuck, shaking his head "They should not force young ones to fight," Boots knew that the fur of grey toms formed a nearly unbreakable shield. His own black and white pelt was more complex. The black allowed him to turn Rudimentary invisible. While the white patches gave a random ability, his was instinctual language understanding. Wigit began talking about the battle, while off-handedly using the beam of light, which was the exact color of his eyes, to lift trash into the dumpster. Suddenly one of the boxes gave a loud squeak as Widget was about to drop it. Widget started and inadvertently threw the box across the alley. Boots spun around and shot an amber burst of light from his ear and caught the box inches from the ground. It lowered, suspended by the glowing aura, to the ground. The flaps fell open to reveal a black bundle of fur staring at them through colorless eyes. A halo of blinding light surrounded them, ever changing in color. Chuck gasped and Widgit actually fell over. But Boots stood stone still, staring at the eyes in terror. "This could spell certain doom for us all".
