Chapter 20 - The Beggars

After doing her groceries and returning it home, Joffiel decided to roam in the areas where she saw her bracelet make a faint light in hope that she could find the person for her task.

As she walked by, her bracelet made a faint light again. As compared to the other time, Joffiel has plenty of time right now so she enthusiastically finds where the light would shine brighter.

After some time, she knew the direction where the light on the bracelet became brighter and brighter. As the bracelet shines the most, she was in a place that looked like a place for poor people. It’s on the outskirts of the city.

Joffiel looked around and she saw a beggar together with her daughter. At that instant, Joffiel knows that they are the people that she needed to help to achieve their goal.

Joffiel just watched the two beggars as they went to a busy street to beg for spare coins. Joffiel decided to buy food and drinks before talking to the beggars.

Before approaching them, Joffiel used her eyes of discernment to them. She found that they are good people.

“Hello, I got something for both of you,” Joffiel spoke to the two beggars while holding out food in her hand.

“Food. Thank you very much, Ma’am,” the mother said.

The daughter of the beggar that looks like a nine years old little girl bowed her head to Joffiel in thanks for the food that she gave them.

“Can I ask you something?” Joffiel asked.

“Yes, Ma’am. Anything for you,” the mother said while hurriedly taking a bite to the food that Joffiel gave.

“What happened? Why are you in this kind of situation?” Joffiel asked to learn more about how she could finish her task concerning them.

“Why are we begging for money? Well, it’s because of me. Almost seven years ago, I went to many places to find my husband. I searched every possible place that I could think of but to no avail, I couldn't find him,” the mother replied.

“Then why are you still here?” Joffiel asked.

“We don’t have a place to return to and I spend all of my money when I’m traveling around. I don’t have a choice back there but to beg for money, without me knowing, I spend all of my years here being a beggar. My daughter grows in the street but I make sure that I can teach her all the good manners that I know,” the mother replied.

“I feel sorry about that,” Joffiel said.

“I wish I could find my husband, even after many years, I’m still not giving up on finding him. But I couldn’t go far away from this place, this is the only city that could give us enough money to live on a daily basis,” the mother said.

Maybe that’s the goal that I needed to help them out. Joffiel thought to herself.

“Let’s find a place to sit on so we can talk more about it,” Joffiel said.

“Are you really okay with talking to us?” the daughter asked.

“Of course, I don’t find it odd,” Joffiel answered.

“You’re so beautiful and so fresh, people might have different ideas if they saw you talking to us,” the mother said.

“Don’t worry about me, and if ever someone bothers you because of me, I’ll make sure that you get away with trouble,” Joffiel replied.

“Thank you so much, Ma’am. The food that you gave us helped us a lot,” the mother said.

Joffiel talks with the mother and daughter about their life. Joffiel realized that they are the beggars that she observed during her training in heaven. With that, she gained more details about them and how she could help them out.

“Where are you currently living now?” Joffiel asked.

“We don’t really have a place that we could call home, we can’t sleep just anywhere in this city since the police are kicking us out. So we live in the street in some back alleys,” the mother replied.

“I see, are you going to that place right now?” Joffiel asked.

“Yes, it’ll be night soon and the police are very active during these times,” the mother answered.

“Then let me escort you there,” Joffiel said.

“No, don’t do that. That place reeks with bad people, something bad might happen to you if you go there at this time of the day,” the mother said.

“Yes, Madam. You should not go there with us,” the daughter said.

“It’s fine, I could take care of myself. I wanted to know what kind of place the both of you are living,” Joffiel said.

“If you say so, let me guide you there,” the mother said.

Along the way, they encounter many people that seem lifeless. Joffiel gets the attention of all the people in that area.

“I’m being nervous for you, the police rarely go to this place so I don’t think that they could help you if something bad happens,” the mother said.

“Don’t worry, I could feel the gaze of many people, but I’m not finding anyone that could be a threat,” Joffiel said.

They arrive at the place and Joffiel observes the situation in the area. It was full of many different things, there are many people that use illegal drugs publicly, people that are gambling and there’s shouting everywhere. The street is very busy even during the night.

“I see, this is obviously not a proper place to live,” Joffiel said.

“But this is the best place for the likes of us,” the mother said.

Joffiel took out some money in her wallet and gave it secretly to the mother. She said, “Keep this, I know it would only help you for a week or two but make sure that no one would be able to steal it from you. If anything happens, just go to the place that we talked about earlier.”

“This is too much, Ma’am,” the mother whispered.

“Just take it, buy something for you and your daughter, at least let her experience a day full of happiness,” Joffiel answered.

“Fine, I’ll accept this. Please be careful going home,” the mother said.

“Thank you,” Joffiel said as she left the two.

As Joffiel was walking to get home. She noticed the presence of many stalkers, she just let them be but before she could get out of the back alleys, two people blocked her way out.

“What a beautiful girl doing in this kind of place?” a man said.

“We got a jackpot today,” another man said.

Another guy appeared at the back of Joffiel. That man said, “It will be fun tonight, thank you for the meal.”

A total of eight guys surrounded Joffiel.

“Ohh, why are you not reacting? Are you not scared?” one of the guys said.

“Maybe she’s peeing in her pants already,” another guy teased.

“Maybe you should let me pass,” Joffiel said.

“Oops! That’s not a good suggestion, one of the verses in the bible said that you shall not pass,” a guy said.

Everyone laughed as the guy spoke. One guy approaches Joffiel and attempts to grab her hand. However, in a single glance that guy was already down on the floor.

“This girl is a feisty one,” one of the guys said.

Everyone attempted to approach Joffiel but they could not even touch Joffiel. One by one, the guys fall onto the ground. They could not comprehend what’s happening. One of the guys started to draw out knives from his pocket but that does not change a thing, the battle is just one sided.

“Let me tell you this, doing bad things would only lead to bad things happening. I hope that this will teach you a lesson,” Joffiel said. Upon saying that, Joffiel made all of the guys unconscious.

Joffiel went home and slept for the rest of the night.

As morning came, Sheena was already at Joffiel’s unit.

“Did you hear the news, a group of wanted criminals was found tied up. The police were confused on what happened, the criminals are not even saying anything on how they end up like that,” Sheena said.

Maybe they are ashamed that a girl single-handedly beat them out. Joffiel thought to herself.

“Whatever the reason is, it’s good that the criminals like them are being caught by the police,” Joffiel said.

“Hmm yeah, I agree with that. So, what are you up to today?” Sheena replied.

“Since I already made a preparation for the presentation for the cake, I’ll focus on learning about the job that I got at the Azazel Company,” Joffiel answered.

“How will you do that?” Sheena asked.

“I’ll spend time outside so I could think of some ideas,” Joffiel answered.

“Okay, then just be careful. I’ll go to my school right now,” Sheena said.

“Take care, Sheena,” Joffiel said.

As Sheena went to her school. Joffiel decided to meet with the mother and daughter again.

Joffiel meets the two in the same spot again.

“Ma’am, I’m glad that you’re alright,” the mother said.

“Just like what I’ve told you.So what are you planning today?” Joffiel replied.

“Actually, I don’t know what to do with the money you gave me, it's so long ago that I have money like this with me so I don’t know how to spend it,” the mother said.

“I got an idea, this city has a place where someone could take a bath right?” Joffiel asked.

“Yes, though it causes money that’s why we only went in that from time to time,” the mother said.

“Then go to that place right now, take a bath. For the time being, I’ll buy clothes for the both of you to wear, then we’ll go to some places afterwards,” Joffiel said.

The mother agreed. Joffiel proceeds to shop for the clothes of the two. After a while, they met again and Joffiel handed the clothes to them. The daughter was so happy as she received her new clothes.

As the two changed their clothes, Joffiel guided them to a certain place.

“Wow, are we really going inside?” the daughter asked.

“Yes, this will be your first time going to this place right?” Joffiel asked.

“Yes, I’m so jealous of the people that could go in here whenever they wanted,” the daughter replied.

“A theme park, I never thought that I could go inside of it again,” the mother said while holding her tears out.

“So, let’s go?” Joffiel said.

The three of them went together. The daughter enjoyed the best time of her life.The watched her daughter making her biggest smile.

They spend a lot of time on rides, movies, and many other things inside the theme park.

“I need to pee,” the daughter said.

“Okay, fine just go inside. We’ll wait for you here,” the mother said.

The daughter went into the restroom.

“You know what, this is my first time seeing my daughter happy like that,” the mother said.

Joffiel just listens to the mother.

“Because of that, I think that I will give up on finding my husband. We’ll return home to my relatives with the money that you gave me. I think that my daughter deserves this kind of happiness rather than living in the streets. I’m always afraid of going home because for me, that means that I failed in my life. So thank you for making me realize this. Thank you so much, Joffiel,” the mother said.

After the mother said that, Joffiel’s bracelet shines a different color and after that, one of the beads was marked with a star.

“I’m back. Mom? Why are you crying?” the daughter asked.

“Oh, this? I’m just very happy, this is a tears of joy. Listen, my daughter, tomorrow, we will go back to the place you were born,” the mother said.

“Really?!” the daughter said with bright eyes and a big smile.

The tears from the mother continued to fall down. She said, “Yes, we’re going home.”

Joffiel smiles as she sees the two having a conversation.

“Well, I’ll also use the restroom. Could you take care of my daughter for a minute, Joffiel?” the mother asked.

“Of course, take your time,” Joffiel answered.

The mother immediately went to the bathroom while wiping out her tears.

“I’m so happy. It’s been a long time but my Mom accepted the fact that we would not find my father. I’ve been doing things that could make her give up so she could spend the time of her life not only finding my father,” the daughter said.

So the person that I needed to help is the daughter and not the mother. That makes sense, I’m glad that I met the two of them. I learned more about human emotions. Experience it first hand is really different than just training. Joffiel thought to herself.

“Thank you very much, Ma’am Joffiel. You really help us out a lot,” the daughter said.

As the mother comes, they leave the theme park full of enjoyment. Joffiel bid farewell to the two and gave them more money to help them out in case something will happen back in their home.

“Joffiel, you’re really a blessing in disguise to us. Some time in the future, maybe not from me but I’m sure that what you did to us will help you back,” the mother said.
