"But I never heard of an aunt?" I asked them.
"You will see now why," Nyx said, pointing to the event about to unfold. I focused my attention and saw a man emerge from the treeline, walking toward my grandmother.
"Hello, my love," he said in a disgusting voice.
"I am not your love, Baltimore," my grandmother replied, making me chuckle. Looks like the spitfire in me comes from her.
"You're still not ready to accept the offer I made you?"
"Never. I would rather die than be your wife."
"Well, you won't die, but I am losing my patience. So let me make myself clear. Maybe you'll listen to me now," he said, sending a lightning bolt toward my aunt. My grandmother saw it happening but wasn't fast enough to save her. My grandmother walked toward my aunt, holding her breath. I could see the hope in her eyes, hoping my aunt had survived the attack. But as soon as she reached her, I saw the light leave her eyes
"I will kill you for this, Baltimore."
"Oh no, you can't. I curse you to never cast an evil spell or use your magic for personal gain, such as taking revenge on me. You should have accepted my offer to be my wife," he said with an evil smirk on his disgusting face.
"I will find a way to make you pay for this. I swear it by the Goddesses Nyx and Hecate," my grandmother told him.
"This is what made your grandmother cold toward your mother," Nyx said sadly. Before I knew it, I was blinded by that light again, skipping a few years ahead. I now saw my mother as a little girl with black hair, something that felt strange—I was so used to seeing her with white hair.
"You need to train harder. Be better. You need to be stronger. Keep working on it," my grandmother said to my mother, her eyes cold. She didn't let my mother feel the love she had shown my aunt, which made me angry at her. Again, the vision skipped a few years, showing my mom as a young woman.
"I, Skylar White, challenge you for the position of Head Witch!" she yelled at my grandmother.
"We will spare you the fight. You are already overflowing with new information as it is," Hecate said, sympathy in her voice. I nodded in gratitude toward her.
"Your mother won the fight, making her the next Head Witch," Nyx explained to me.
"But how is it that we are alone now?" I asked them.
"When your mom became Head Witch, she discovered her mother had been using the other witches for dark magic. To say she didn't approve of it is an understatement," Hecate said with a dark chuckle, making Nyx roll her eyes.
"Witches who use dark magic become addicted to it. The need to practice it becomes almost impossible to resist. Your mother asked those witches to leave, but they refused. This forced your mother to use her magic against them for personal gain, which triggered her curse. Once the curse was activated, the other witches decided it was best for your mother to leave before Baltimore returned," Nyx explained.
"Your mother was cast aside as if she hadn't saved them all. When she left, she lived in the woods for a while, apparently closer to a werewolf pack than she realized. One day, while gathering herbs, she met your grandfather—your father's father. They agreed that she could stay there as long as she cast a protection spell around the pack grounds. Your father was just a pup at the time, too young to recognize her as his mate.
"They fought a lot. Your grandfather found it amusing, as the she-wolves threw themselves at his son, but she fought him instead. Her defiance forced him to change his ways because she called him out on his insecurities. Their bickering was funny to watch, especially since we
knew they secretly liked each other," Hecate said with a sigh. Something about this story made me question my mother.
"How old is my mother?"
"Your mother would be celebrating her 250th birthday," Nyx said.
"I think this is enough information for tonight. Talk to your pack about this. Let them know about the threat Baltimore poses. Your father can tell you more about how he and your mother met," Hecate said, making me realize they were about to send me back to the land of the living.
"Thank you for clearing some things up. Now I know how to prepare for what is coming," I said to the two Goddesses, bowing my head.
"We will meet again soon, child," Nyx said with a smile. As I closed my eyes, I heard my alarm going off. Waking up for today's events—meeting my biological father. Hopefully, I'll meet my grandparents too. I also need to tell everyone about my dream and make a plan to start training. Sighing as the list kept getting longer and longer. Well, first things first: getting up and ready for the day. Taking some clothes from my closet, I walked toward the shower. Once I finished showering, I put on my clothes and walked over to my vanity to put on some makeup. I also put on the necklace from Bloodmoon. Opening my door, I was immediately hit with the smell of breakfast, and suddenly my stomach came to life, making itself known. With a red face, I walked into the kitchen. Everybody was already downstairs, eating, talking, and laughing. It gave me hope—hope that from now on, I wouldn't be alone.
"Good morning, everyone," I said as I walked in. Caleb walked toward me with a mug of coffee, handing it to me and kissing me on the head, which only made my already blushing face worse.
"Good morning, Little Spitfire," he said.
"Good morning, Alpha Luna," Musa greeted me with a grin. At that comment, I rolled my eyes.
"Good morning, Vi," Rose said.
"Morning, Luna," Logan added.
"Morning, Alpha," Nova greeted me. Damien was busy making pancakes, which only made my stomach growl again.
"Good morning, sweetheart," Damien said, making me turn as red as a tomato. It was the first time he had said it to my face.
"Get a plate; I saved you some breakfast."
"Thank you, Damien," I said sincerely, getting up to grab a plate from one of the kitchen cabinets. With my plate in hand, I walked over to Damien, and he slipped a few pancakes onto my plate. Before I could walk away, he pulled me into a hug—not giving me a kiss like Caleb but making me feel cared for nonetheless. Damien and Caleb were so different, and it made me smile. Standing on my tiptoes, I kissed Damien on the cheek, making him smile at me. I walked over to Caleb, who was eating and kissed him on the cheek too.
"Thank you for getting me coffee; I cannot function without it," I said, sitting down to eat my breakfast.
"Musa, Nova, and I are riding with you so we can talk about the meeting with my father. Rose, you'll ride with Logan and the twins, and after school, we'll wait for you by Musa's car," I said with a bite in my mouth. As everyone was finishing their breakfast, I made another round of coffee, thinking about the long day ahead.
"Caleb, Damien, can you maybe find out why your pack and mine are having issues?"
"Sure thing. We needed to talk to our parents anyway. Our mom will kill us if she finds out we have a mate from another pack," Caleb answered, with Damien nodding along. Once everyone had finished eating, they placed their dishes in the sink. Since Damien, Caleb, and Nova had made breakfast, Rose, Logan, and I took care of the dishes. I washed while Logan and Rose dried.
"Look at us, already functioning as a pack," I said with a laugh, making the others join in. As soon as we were done, everyone grabbed their school bags and headed to the cars they'd been assigned to.
"Nova, what's the correct way to address your Alpha? It'd be good to know so I don't mess it up. And are there any other things I shouldn't do?"
"Well, Alpha Alex is fine. And don't look him in the eyes—it's considered a challenge. I've noticed you tend to do that when trying to make a point. If it's an Alpha, it could get you killed," she warned, making me nod in understanding.
"Anything else I should avoid?"
"Not that I can think of, but maybe start by telling him you're mated to the heirs of the Blackfang pack so he can get used to the idea," Nova suggested.
"I hope the twins figure out why there's so much hate between the packs. It would make things a whole lot easier for us if we knew the reason," I said with a sigh.
"But I realized something—Rose is going to be the female Gamma of Blackfang. Who will be the Gamma for Bloodmoon?"
"That's a good question. To be honest, I have no clue," Nova said, which made me think about her.
"Nova, how old are you? I barely know anything about you all. That question is for you too, Musa," I asked, making them both chuckle at my ignorance.
"Well, I'm only 17, but I turn 18 in three weeks," Nova said.
"I'm 19," Musa answered.
"And do you have a mate, Musa?"
"Not yet, but I don't mind. I know for a fact that whoever is made for me will be worth the wait," Musa said with a dreamy smile, making Nova glance at her.
