Chapter Two Luke had spent far too long the previous night alternating between talking himself into getting dressed and knocking on Milly Richardson’s door, and talking himself back out of it again. He swore as—for the third time in half an hour—he jammed his fingers in the doorframe that he was trying to sand down. Usually, Luke loved the hard but slow work he was doing, renovating a decrepit old house he’d purchased for a tiny sum.
