Chapter Three Milly slowed her pace as she walked down Parker St. It had been more than a decade since she’d had butterflies in her stomach when going to meet a man, but the closer she got to Luke’s house the worse her nerves got. Denying her attraction to him was pointless. She vividly recalled their senior prom. Every night for weeks she practiced in the mirror above her bureau, her bedroom door firmly closed, wanting to look exactly right when she accepted Luke’s offer to take her to the dance.
