Her back struck a wall hard and then Violet was on the floor struggling to breathe. A burning sensation spread from her chest to her ribs. Black sludge coated the floor and slowly spread towards her. Violet really didn’t want to touch it. Images of a substance like it being injected into her veins flashed in her mind. Now was not the time to try to figure that out. Survive. Everything else could wait. Slowly the pain was receding as if her body was repairing what was broken. Such regeneration was certainly not normal but Violet wasn’t going to complain.
