Alan's POV: I cling to Solomon's fur for dear life, my fingers tangled in his coarse black coat as we race through the shadowy forest. The wind whips my hair, stinging my eyes, but I don't dare loosen my grip. My heart pounds in my ears, drowning out the sound of paws pummeling the earth beneath us. "Faster, Solomon!" I urge, glancing back at the monstrous shape pursuing us. Its misshapen form crashes through the underbrush, gaining ground with each loping stride. Panic claws at my throat.
