"I failed you, Ana. I am sorry." We were here in the rented apartment I shared with my schoolmates. We were sitting on a sofa while talking about what happened at the audition.
"It's not your fault." She tenderly touched my hand as if assuring me that everything will going to be alright. "It was Jake's. You did a good job. Even Brent was so impressed with your acting skills."
I looked away and sighed. "Does this mean you would give up on me? You won't manage my career as an actor anymore? Look, I didn't get the main role and I even excluded in the cast."
She immediately shake her head as a sign of disagreement. "I won't do that to you, Jas. I promised your sister that I would do everything to help you."
"Thank you, Ana. I don't know what to do anymore. I have bills to pay and I just resigned on my job that feeds me for four years. Next year, my son would start schooling so I need to find a job. I have to provide for my son's needs."
"I am his godmother, right?" she uttered with a lopsided smile. "What am I here for if I couldn't help you in providing his needs?"
"We owe you so much, Ana. I don't know how to repay you for your kindness."
"Don't mention it, Jas. I will do anything for my godson's welfare. You know how much I adore him from the day he was born."
Tears run down my cheeks the moment she mentioned that day. That was the happiest and saddest day of my life. If I could only make myself forget that day...
"Hush, Jas." Ana caressed my back. She knows everything about me and my family. I have nothing to hide from her except my relationship with Jake that I had before. Ana came into our lives a month after I left Jake. Even my mother and my sister never seen Jake before. He was my biggest secret that I hide from them.
"That b*stard," I murmured as I wiped my tears. "How could he do such thing to my son?"
"It's better if you forget that b*stard, Jas. What's important is that your son stays with you. You raised him well. Never mind his father. He doesn't want him anyway."
Good thing we haven't seen him for years. We have a peaceful life now even though we struggle to make both ends meet. My main goal is to finished my college degree and land on a decent job for my family... especially for my son.
"Anyway, Jas, I am sorry for what happened tonight. I thought Brent has the final say when it comes to their upcoming film." It was almost eleven o'clock in the evening and it seems like Ana doesn't have any plan to leave the apartment until my schoolmates arrived. It's Saturday and usually my schoolmates were busy hanging out with their elite friends in a bar somewhere around the city.
"It's okay, Ana. Perhaps that role isn't really for me." I sighed. "Surely the actor who'll get the main role must be very lucky. This upcoming film will soon be the talk of the town. I already envy her, Ana."
She smiled. "Don't be. Never cry over a spilled milk, dear."
"I know, but I can't help it."
She tapped my shoulder. "Big things comes to those who wait. Who knows? One of these days you will be offered with a much bigger project than this. Just don't stop believing in yourself. Someday you'll become a big star, Jas. I promise you that."
I let out a loud laughter. "May your wishes come true, Ana, although it's kinda outrageous. Me?" I pointed at myself. What happened today made me realized that I have no place in the industry. "A simple girl who came from a province trying her luck in the showbiz industry? Perhaps I should be contented on being a part time actor as my side hustle." I was part of a television series before. It's just a minor role wherein I portray as a nurse in a clinic where the main lead gave birth. My lines were too short; I was just there to get the patient's blood pressure and that's all.
"Don't lose hope, Jas. I see a star in you. All you need is just a big break. You have what it takes to be a star."
I chose not to say a word. Ana has a big expectation from me. I don't want her to be disappointed but what can I do? Jake already started destroying my struggling career.
I tried to change the topic. "Tomorrow is Sunday, right? Tulip will have a book signing event at ten o'clock in the morning. I am planning to go."
Ana arched her eyebrows. "Tulip? The writer of the book Betrayed?"
I nod. "I desperately need to meet her, Ana. She's one of my favorite writer. I have been waiting for this book signing event for like two months. Actually, I did buy her book last month. I'm gonna bring it with me tomorrow so she could sign it."
"Have you met her before? She doesn't reveal her true identity in public, right? She didn't even share any picture of herself in her social media account so I haven't even have a slightest idea what she really look like."
I shook my head. "That's why I need to be there tomorrow. Even though I haven't chosen as one of the cast of the film adaptation Betrayed, at least I got to meet the writer behind that great novel."
Betrayed is a best-selling novel in the country that's why Brent's company currently planning to produce it's film adaptation. Tomorrow will be a big day for they are going to reveal the true identity of Tulip..
"You are a die-hard fan of her," Ana muttered.
I smiled at her. "More than a die-hard fan, Ana. If given a chance I would hug her and have a picture with her."
"You must remember that my godson will be here tomorrow. Don't tell me you're going to that event with him?"
"You'll be there too, right?"
"No, I have a meeting with a client. I'm gonna be free by afternoon so I could have time with that kiddo. Sorry, but I can't be there with you tomorrow morning."
"Then I have no choice but to bring my son to Tulip's book signing event. I hope they would allow kids there."
