"Cheer up, Jas." Ana was busy driving her own car. We were on our way to the restaurant just as she planned a while ago. "Don't worry about what I said before. That was nothing. I just said those sh*ts so you would be motivated to pursue your career." She winked at me and continue driving. "Come on, I am really sorry."
I forced a smile so she would feel relieved. It's not her words that I worry about anyway. It's really Jake. What he said to me in the ladies room cut deeply into my heart. It pains me seeing him suffering inside. I know I hurt him and I am to blame for his misery.
The Jake I knew before wasn't the Jake I have talked to an hour ago. He literally changed. From his appearance, his perspective, and the way he is treating me. He is not the Jake that I love during the first several months of my college freshman.
Our relationship only last for a couple of months. Although that was just a whirlwind romance I knew that we truly love each other. It's just that things didn't go the way we want it to be. I was so naive and insensitive that time. I admit I believed what his mother had said and I just turned my back at Jake.
"A penny on your thought?" I heard Ana said that's why I came out of my reverie.
"Sorry." I closed my eyes and sighed. I am really worried about the situation I am in. Jake already warned me and I know what he is capable of. He's rich; he has connections so he can do anything he wanted just to destroy my ambition. I was just starting my acting career as an actor and I am determined to succeed in a world of showbiz industry. It's my last resort.
"Anyway, Jas, did you already resign on your job?"
"I did." I worked as a cashier in a fast food restaurant. The salary was okay but I need a high paying job that's why I chose to enter Ana's talent agency. She's a good friend of my sister so she immediately accept me in her agency. "I filed my resignation letter this morning."
"Oh, that's good. There's no conflict the moment you signed the contract."
"Contract?"
"Yeah." She smiled widely. "I talked to Brent while you were inside the ladies room."
"And?" I can't wait to hear what she's going to say.
"He said that we should prepare for the contract signing. Anyway, I have to inform you that for now it's between me and Brent so don't you dare tell anyone about it, okay?"
"Am I to portray the main lead?"
Ana shrugged her shoulders. "I hope Brent could find a way. Jake is really so stubborn. They need to consider his opinion."
"He doesn't want me to be included in the cast," I whispered.
"Don't worry, Jas, even if you don't get the main role at least you will be included in the cast. Brent assure me that you could get the supporting role. Let's just cross our fingers." She stopped the car. "We are here."
I frowned. Surely Ana won't book a reservation to this restaurant. She might be mistaken. This is a five star restaurant. She's very frugal and would choose a fast food restaurant instead.
"Did you win a lottery ticket, Ana?" I inquired with a big smile. "You are allergic to this kind of restaurant." I have no plan of getting out of the car. Ana must be making fun of me.
A sinister smile appeared on her face. "I'll tell you when we get inside that restaurant." She pointed her forefinger at the luxurious restaurant nearby. "Come on, Jas, they must be waiting for us."
"What—"
"Come on! No more questions. Just do what I say." She climb out of the car and gave the car key to the valet.
I was surprised by her actions. Maybe she has a meeting with the client and decided to tag me along. Knowing her she really won't dine in a place like this if it means her wallet would suffer in the next few days.
"A word of advice, Jas," Ana whispered the moment we entered the restaurant. "Smile. Smile even if you don't approve of someone's opinion."
"Noted. Anyway, why are we exactly here?" We are already inside and an usher approached us.
"We have a meeting with Mr. Brent Castrence," Ana told the usher in a low voice. "Is he already here?"
"Yes, ma'am. This way, please," the usher replied.
"Jas, Brent told me he is with Jake right now. It's time for you to impress him. Tell him anything about you, what you do in life. Perhaps he would change his mind and—"
"Ana." I cursed inside my head. How could she do this to me? If I just knew that Jake would be here I just waited for her inside the car. I don't want to see Jake much less talk to him and beg so he would change his mind. He already made up his mind hours ago. I must be excluded in the cast and that's his final decision. "You should have told me on our way here."
"Shut your mouth, Jas." Ana smiled as if we were talking funny things.
I have already seen Jake and Brent so I pretend to smile just like what Ana told me earlier. Well it's better for me to show Jake that I am a good sport. That I could accept his decision.
"I thought you are not coming." Brent stand up and kissed Ana on the cheeks. He do the same with me.
"Sorry for being late, Brent. I had to talked to a client before meeting you here." Ana smiled at him.
"No worries, honey." Brent pulled a chair beside him and Ana thank him. He pulled another chair and I had a hunched that was for me so I sit there careful not to disturb Jake who was busy on his cellphone.
"Hey, buddy," Brent nudged his friend after being seated. "Won't you say hi to these two ladies?"
Jake put his cellphone on the table; he stared at Ana and forced a smile. He then glanced at me and frowned. "If you are here to try to influence me about my decision, you are just wasting your time, lady."
"Worry not, Mr. Jake," I replied with a big smile on my face. "Whatever your decision is, so be it. Anyway, I am here because Ana invited me for dinner."
I noticed a hint of annoyance in his handsome face. His jaw suddenly clenched as if he is suppressing his anger towards me.
