“No, not really. Well, she does what I tell her, but…”
Jesse, who’d been about to push the door open to the screened-in patio, paused mid-step. Inside she could see Gittie, her back toward Jesse and her phone pressed to one ear.
“What? I can’t believe she hasn’t called you, either. I’m so sorry, Petra…Well, I don’t see her much apart from meals and she’s very quiet at those…No, nothing like she used to be when she was a teenager, unfortunately. Then she’d talk my ears off. Skipper this and Skipper that and every little detail about her last riding lesson.”
