Elena and Leo have spent years acting like there's nothing between them. What started as a normal friendship slowly became something else, but neither of them ever said it out loud. It was easier to ignore it and just move on like everything was fine. So they kept things the same, stayed in their comfort zone, and pretended nothing was there. But deep down, they both knew that wasn't true.Sometimes it showed in small ways, like the way they looked at each other or how they got quiet when things felt too real. Even when they tried to create distance, they always found themselves coming back to each other like nothing changed. Everything starts to change when they're forced to work together. Being around each other every day makes it harder to avoid what they've been feeling for a long time. The little things start to mean more on how they talk, how they laugh, and how quiet moments between them suddenly feel different. Even simple conversations begin to carry weight, and they both start noticing things they used to ignore. Then there's Leo's girlfriend, who begins to notice things aren't as normal as they seem. She sees the way they act around each other and starts to feel like something is off. Her presence makes everything more tense, like every move they make is being watched. It creates pressure, and even the smallest interactions begin to feel like a big deal. Between jealousy, long nights at work, and feelings they don't fully understand, things start to get messy. They try to act like nothing is happening, but it's getting harder to pretend. The more time they spend together, the more obvious it becomes that something has always been there. They start to question themselves and everything they thought they understood. Now, they have a choice to make. Do they keep hiding how they feel and risk losing each other completely, or do they finally admit the truth, even if it changes everything. And if they do, are they ready for what comes after.

CHAPTER 1: The Tension We Never Named
Elena had mastered the art of pretending, pretending that Leo’s voice didn’t make her heart skip. Pretending that the way his eyes lingered on her meant nothing or Pretending that the electricity between them wasn’t real. For three years, they had been “just friends.” And for three years, that lie had been getting harder to believe. Elena stepped into the cafe and immediately spotted him. Leo was impossible to miss, tall and Relaxed. Confident in that effortless way that made people look twice without knowing why. His dark hair fell slightly over his forehead, and he absently ran his fingers through it as he listened to the girl beside him Maya, his girlfriend. Elena felt her stomach tighten. Maya leaned closer to Leo, laughing softly at something he said. Her hand slid over his arm in a way that looked natural… comfortable, like she belonged there. Elena forced herself to breathe normally. This shouldn’t bother her.Leo wasn’t hers, he had never been. “Are you going to stand there staring all day?” His voice snapped her out of it. Leo was looking directly at her now. And he was smirking. Elena walked over, trying to ignore the way her pulse suddenly quickened. “You’re late,” he said. “You’re dramatic,” she replied, sliding into the chair across from him. His eyes moved slowly over her face, studying her in a way that made her skin warm. Leo always looked at her like that, too intensely. Maya glanced between them with a curious smile. “You two have weird chemistry,” she said casually. Elena almost choked on her breath. Leo didn’t look away from her. “We’re just friends,” Elena said quickly. Leo leaned back in his chair, his gaze still locked on hers. “Yeah,” he said quietly. But the way he said it didn’t sound convincing at all. Elena looked away first. Because if she didn’t… She might admit something she had been trying to ignore for years. “The truth” That the space between her and Leo had never really been empty. It had always been filled with tension. And sooner or later… Something was going to break. The thought lingered in Elena’s chest long after the moment passed. She hated how true it felt. Because nothing between her and Leo had ever been simple. Not from the beginning. Not even when they first met. Back then, it had been easier to ignore. Easier to laugh things off. Easier to pretend that the way he looked at her didn’t mean anything. But time had a way of exposing things people tried to hide. And three years was too long to keep pretending. Leo tapped his fingers lightly against the table, still watching her. “You’re quiet,” he said. Elena forced a small smile, “I’m always quiet.” “That’s not true.” She glanced at him. A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “I pay attention.” That simple statement made her stomach tighten again. Of course he did. Leo always noticed things. The smallest changes, the slightest reactions. It was one of the reasons she had never been able to fully relax around him. Because being around Leo meant being seen. And Elena wasn’t sure she wanted to be seen that clearly. Maya shifted in her seat, breaking the moment “So,” she said, looking between them, “how did you two even become friends?” Elena opened her mouth, but Leo answered first. “She annoyed me,” he said casually. Elena scoffed. “That’s not even true.” “It is,” he replied, completely unfazed. “You talked too much.” “You’re literally making things up.” Maya laughed softly, clearly entertained. “And now?” she asked. Leo didn’t answer immediately. His gaze flickered back to Elena. And for a brief second, something unspoken passed between them again. “Now,” he said slowly, “I’m used to her.” Elena rolled her eyes, but her heart betrayed her reaction. Because that wasn’t what he meant. She knew it. And somehow, she had a feeling Maya knew it too. The conversation shifted after that, to things that didn’t matter. But even as they talked, Elena couldn’t shake the feeling that something had already changed. Like a line had been crossed. Not physically but internally. And once that kind of shift happened… It was impossible to undo. After a while, Maya excused herself to take a call outside. The moment she left, the air between Elena and Leo changed instantly. It was almost predictable at this point. Silence settled between them. But it wasn’t empty, It was full, heavy with everything they weren’t saying. Elena stared down at the table, tracing the edge of her cup absentminded. She could feel his gaze on her. “You’re avoiding me,” Leo said quietly. Her hand went still. “I’m not.” “You are.” She sighed softly, finally looking up. “I’m sitting right here.” “That doesn’t mean you’re not avoiding me.” There it was again. That way he spoke, direct and certain. Like he already knew the answer. Elena held his gaze for a moment, then shook her head. “You think too much.” Leo leaned slightly forward. “And you don’t think enough.” Her breath caught. The words weren’t harsh, but they landed deeper than she expected. For a second, neither of them spoke. The noise of the cafe faded into the background. All Elena could focus on was him. The way his eyes held hers, the way he didn’t look away, the way the space between them suddenly felt too small. Leo…she started, But she didn’t know what she was going to say, and that was the problem. Because once she started saying things, She might not be able to stop. Maya returned before anything else could happen. The moment broke. Leo leaned back again, his expression shifting back to something more neutral. Elena looked away, her heart still racing. Conversation resumed, normal and casual. But underneath it all, the tension remained. Stronger now, and more defined. Because it wasn’t just imagined anymore. It was real. And all three of them could feel it. Even if only one of them was pretending not to. When they finally stood to leave, the sun was too much outside. Maya walked beside Leo, her hand brushing his again. Elena walked slightly ahead, Creating distance. But even then… She could still feel him behind her, like something invisible was still connecting them. And no matter how far she walked, that connection didn’t fade. Because the truth was simple, no matter how much they tried to act normal… No matter how much they hid behind friendship… The space between them was no longer safe.
