Chapter 8 — The Vampire Capital

The gates opened slowly. KRRRRAAAK. Ancient metal groaned beneath its own weight. Beyond them stood a city Noah had never imagined could exist. Black towers rose into a crimson sky. Gothic buildings stretched across the horizon, connected by bridges suspended hundreds of meters above the streets. Thousands of crimson lanterns illuminated the roads. Vampires walked everywhere. Nobles wearing elegant clothing. Warriors carrying ancient weapons. Merchants selling strange artifacts. Children playing beneath the watchful eyes of their parents. Noah stared. “This is the Vampire Capital?” Kael nodded. “The heart of our civilization.” Noah expected darkness. Instead, the city was alive. Beautiful. Organized. Almost peaceful. That somehow made it more frightening. Elara leaned toward him. “Don't let the beauty fool you.” Noah looked at her. “Why?” “Everyone here has a bloodline.” She pointed toward a group of vampires. “Some are stronger than you.” She pointed toward another street. “Some are far stronger.” Then she pointed toward the massive black castle floating above the city. “And some could kill you without moving.” Noah looked at the castle. The system appeared. [Major location detected.] [THE VAMPIRE CAPITAL.] Population: Unknown Known high-level entities: 7 Warning: Seven Vampire Lords detected. Noah swallowed. “Seven.” Kael looked at him. “Yes.” “The seven Lords.” “Correct.” “Do they all know I'm here?” Kael smiled. “They knew before you entered.” Noah's expression became serious. “Then why haven't they attacked?” Kael looked toward the castle. “Because they're waiting.” “For what?” Kael didn't answer. --- THE CITY OF BLOOD The carriage moved through the main avenue. Vampires stopped what they were doing. They looked at Noah. Whispers spread through the streets. “Is that him?” “The heir?” “Impossible.” “I thought he died.” “Look at his eyes.” “It's really him.” Noah felt hundreds of gazes following him. He leaned toward Elara. “Everyone knows me.” “Not everyone.” “It feels like everyone.” Elara smiled. “You're famous.” “I'd rather not be.” Kael laughed from the front of the carriage. “You'll get used to it.” “No, I won't.” The carriage stopped. Kael opened the door. “We're here.” Noah stepped outside. They stood before a massive building constructed from black stone. A silver symbol was carved above the entrance. Noah recognized it. The same crown-shaped symbol that appeared on his pendant. “What is this place?” Elara answered. “The House of the Blood Crown.” Noah looked at her. “Father's house?” “Once.” She lowered her voice. “Before the seven Lords took control.” Noah stared at the building. “So this was our family's home.” Elara nodded. “Before everything changed.” --- THE BLOOD CROWN Inside the building, the air felt different. Noah immediately sensed something. [Bloodline resonance detected.] [Ancient blood signature detected.] He stopped. “What is that?” Elara looked around. “I don't know.” Noah followed the sensation. They entered a massive hall. At the far end stood an empty throne. It was made of black stone. Crimson crystals surrounded its edges. Noah stared. The moment he saw it, his body reacted. His heart began beating faster. [Ancient throne detected.] [Bloodline compatibility: 100%.] [Throne recognition protocol activated.] Noah stepped forward. Elara grabbed his arm. “Wait.” “Why?” “Father sat there.” Noah looked at the throne. “Then maybe that's why the system recognizes it.” Elara shook her head. “You don't understand.” She looked frightened. “Only one person can sit on that throne.” Noah frowned. “Who?” Elara whispered: “The Blood King.” Noah slowly walked forward. He reached the throne. The moment his fingers touched the armrest— BOOM! A crimson wave exploded through the room. The windows shattered. The floor cracked. The entire building shook. Noah's eyes turned crimson. [Blood Crown resonance detected.] [First fragment located.] Noah stared at the notification. “Here?” [Correct.] The throne began glowing. A hidden compartment opened beneath the seat. Inside was a small crimson crystal. Noah reached for it. [BLOOD CROWN FRAGMENT FOUND.] [1 / 7] [Fragment absorbed.] The crystal disappeared into Noah's hand. A massive surge of energy entered his body. Noah fell to one knee. Elara rushed toward him. “Noah!” He raised his hand. “I'm okay.” The system flashed. [Bloodline resonance: 51% → 58%.] [Maximum Blood Energy increased.] [Blood Energy: 60 → 80.] [New skill available.] [BLOOD BARRIER] Creates a protective shield using condensed blood energy. Noah stared at the ability. “Another skill.” Elara looked at the throne. “You found it.” Noah looked at her. “Did Father hide the fragment?” “Yes.” “Why?” “Because he knew someone would eventually come looking.” Noah's eyes narrowed. “Me?” Elara nodded. --- THE SEVEN LORDS A slow clap echoed through the hall. Clap. Clap. Clap. Noah immediately turned. Seven figures stood at the entrance. No. They weren't standing. They were watching from the shadows. Seven pairs of crimson eyes. Elara stepped in front of Noah. Kael remained completely still. Noah's system activated. [SEVEN HIGH-LEVEL ENTITIES DETECTED.] [WARNING.] [Analysis incomplete.] One figure stepped forward. He wore golden armor. “My, my.” His voice was calm. “The heir has returned.” Another figure laughed. A woman wearing a crimson dress stepped beside him. “He looks just like his father.” A third figure remained in the shadows. “Except weaker.” Noah looked at them. “Which one of you is the leader?” The golden-armored vampire smiled. “There is no leader.” He spread his arms. “We are the Seven Lords.” Noah stared. [Target identification available.] The system displayed their names one by one. [Lord Astarion — Level 72] [Lord Seraph — Level 69] [Lord Veyra — Level 74] [Lord Malachar — Level 81] [Lord Draven — Level 76] [Lord Nyx — Level 70] [Lord Kael — Level 67] Noah looked at Kael. “You're one of them?” Kael nodded. “I never said I wasn't.” Elara stepped forward. “You betrayed Father.” Kael looked at her. “No.” He pointed toward the throne. “We obeyed him.” Noah frowned. “That doesn't make sense.” Lord Malachar finally spoke. “You're too young to understand.” Noah's eyes narrowed. “Then explain.” Malachar stepped forward. “Your father ordered us to protect the vampire world.” “And?” “He knew the First Vampire would eventually awaken.” Noah's expression changed. “He fought it.” “Yes.” “Then why are you all hunting me?” Lord Veyra smiled. “Because your father gave us a second command.” Noah waited. “Protect his heir.” Silence. Noah stared at them. “If that's true, why did Darius attack me?” Lord Astarion answered: “Because not all vampires agree on what protection means.” Noah's hands tightened. “So you want to protect me?” “No.” Astarion smiled. “We want to determine whether you deserve to inherit the Blood Crown.” Noah looked at the throne. “And if I don't?” Malachar answered. “You die.” Elara drew her sword. “Try it.” The seven Lords laughed. Noah raised a hand. “Elara.” She looked at him. “I'll handle this.” “You can't fight them.” “I know.” Noah looked at the seven Lords. “But I can accept their challenge.” Astarion smiled. “Excellent.” [Major Quest detected.] THE BLOOD CROWN TRIAL Objective: Prove your right to inherit the Blood Crown. Requirements: - Survive the Vampire Capital. - Recover the seven Blood Crown fragments. - Defeat or earn the recognition of the Seven Lords. Current fragments: 1 / 7 Current level: 6 Recommended level: 50+ Noah stared at the quest. “Level fifty?” The system remained silent. Noah smiled. “Fine.” He looked at the Seven Lords. “I'll reach level fifty.” Astarion laughed. “And what makes you think you'll survive long enough?” Noah's crimson eyes glowed. “Because I've already died once.” He stepped toward the throne. “And I'm not planning on doing it again.” The throne suddenly reacted. Crimson flames erupted around Noah. The Seven Lords stopped smiling. The system flashed violently. [BLOOD CROWN RECOGNITION INITIATED.] [Bloodline resonance: 58%.] [Warning.] [External entity attempting to access system.] Noah froze. “What?” The system displayed something Noah had never seen before. [INTRUSION DETECTED.] [Source: UNKNOWN.] [System security failing.] Noah's eyes widened. Someone was entering his system. Then a voice echoed inside his mind. Not the system. A human voice. A familiar voice. “Noah.” He froze. He knew that voice. He had heard it only once before. In the blood memory. His father's voice. “If you can hear this, then the Blood Crown has recognized you.” Noah couldn't move. The voice continued. “Do not trust the Seven Lords.” The system flickered. [Message corrupted.] [Remaining data: 3%.] His father's voice became weaker. “The First Vampire isn't the enemy...” Static. “...I am.” The message vanished. Noah stared at the empty air. His face went pale. “My father...” The Seven Lords watched him. None of them spoke. Then the throne cracked. A deep rumbling sound echoed beneath the city. The entire Vampire Capital shook. [CRITICAL WARNING.] [Ancient entity detected beneath the Vampire Capital.] [Identity: FIRST VAMPIRE.] [Status: AWAKENING.] Noah looked toward the floor. Something beneath the city had opened its eyes. And somewhere far below— Something ancient smiled. To be continued...
