19 “You can’t deny her visitors,” Anna said. Bil Hendrel peered through his office window at the blue sky of a sunny afternoon. He turned, looking over his shoulder, and glowered at her. “I’m not denying her visitors,” he said. “Her mother and father have been here twice. A cousin as well. Her lawyer comes and goes as he pleases. I’m forbidding you from visiting her.” Anna stood in front of his desk with her fists balled, closing her eyes as she stuffed the anger into the pit of her stomach. “Cassi is our friend,” she replied. “We care about her, and she needs our support right now.” Rounding on her, Bil leaned back against the pane.
