18 “So, he just said it was too late?” The view through Novol’s living-room window was quite breathtaking. Melissa saw tiny lights in the windows of buildings that stood like shadows under a twilight sky. Beyond that, the dark waters of the ocean stretched on forever. His apartment was cozy with a couch on the wall opposite the window and a lamp glowing on a small wooden table. It wasn’t very big, but Novol considered it a palace.
