So far. Mission staying away from Lucas has been unsuccessful.
"Psst".
That was Lucas trying to get my attention as i made my way past his yard heading for Mrs Reiden's yard. She always needed me to help feed her cat when she went overseas for business. Her husband Royce was hardly ever around and sure i could tolerate that whiny fur ball of hers.
I wasn't the least fond of the cat. But she was paying me and i was saving up for college. We weren't as rich as the Donnovans. I was pretty sure rich boy Lucas knew nothing about the word 'saving'.
I hated passing by their yard but i had no choice. It was the only way to Mrs Reiden's house.
"The silent treatment uh love?". Lucas said rushing to catch up with me.
What the hell did he want now? He definitely had too much free time on his hands. I had earlier quit my job working at a burger joint because aunt Mary said i had to study for college. Of course i was pretty sure boys like Lucas didn't know what it meant to work. All he did was throw parties and make my life a living hell.
"I don't have time for you Lucas. Don't you have things to do?"
"Sure. Talking to you".
"Well i don't wanna talk to you. You kept me awake all night. And please don't you dare mention that comment about being in my dreams". I added immediately.
He smiled sheepishly. "Come on love. Still mad? In case you haven't noticed, school's out. What're you even studying for?"
"Well Lucas, unlike you, i value my education. Plus, I'm studying for college... You know? University?... Where people go to study? "
"I know what that is"
"Oh you do?". I said in mock surprise. "I had no idea".
"Funny". He snorted.
"And i wouldn't care if school's out or not. I'm done with high school".
"Really love? " He feigned surprise. "At fifteen? "

"I'm not fifteen! "
"Sure are". He said with a smirk. "Please don't tell me you're an adult?"
For a moment i thought he was serious and stopped to stare at him. Then catching the laughter in his eyes i punched him on the arm. He had been messing with me.
"Oww". He said, feigning hurt.
I was pretty sure the punch had little or no effect on him. My aim was weak.
"Violent. I like it".
"You're an i***t".
"No I'm not".
"Can you please stop trying to tease and torment me. We're adults not twelve".
"Nah... Where's the fun in that? "
"You really are childish".
"Wow.. and you're the adult?"
He gave me a once over, taking in my outfit. I dressed a bit childishly i knew.
"Are those flip flops?" He stared at my feet and burst out laughing. "You're really something Love you know that?"
"Do you go around calling girls love?"
"No. Just you".
I wanted to ask him why but thought better of it. He would probably have a cocky reply for me.
"Why do you insist on disrupting my reading with your parties?"
"Why don't you read at day time?"
"I read better at night. You actually thought i was an high schooler?"
"Nah. My dad told me all about you".
Wait what? Why the hell would the Donnovans talk about me?
"I had you idea you talked about me"
He stopped suddenly, looking a bit embarrassed.
"Uh... Something led to it". He said scratching his head uneasily.
"What led to it?"
"Nice talking to you Maury". He said, walking away.
What? Was that Lucas Donnovan acting uneasy? And did he just call me my name?
I decided not to think much about it as i made my way to Mrs Reiden's front porch.
I took out the key from my strap bag. She always kept her key with aunt Mary and i. We were the people she trusted in the neighbourhood.
I opened the door and was immediately greeted by a ball of fur.
"Hi Burly".
He started his whining immediately, rubbing against my leg. I immediately set out to feed him and hurried out of the house, locking the door. Just then my cell phone rang. It was my best friend Kathy who had gone on holidays to Spain with her rich mom. She was finally back! I missed her so much.

"So spill!"
Kathy was always up for gists and gossip. It was like food to her. She had been away for so long and wanted to catch up on what went on while she was gone.
She was sitting cross legged on my bed, staring expectantly at me. I told her about Lucas and Pip. I had to. That was the only juicy news i had. And of course she was over the roof.
"Oh my god! Are they hot?
Seriously Kathy acted so childishly a times.
"I didn't notice". I lied blatantly.
"Common Maury... Don't tell me you didn't notice if they were hot or not"
"Uh... I didn't. I don't care about that!"
"You really are a spoil sport you know that?" Kathy said, her mood dampening.
"Well cause unlike you i don't care about hot boys. I have to study for college".
"Poof". She definitely wasn't buying my story. " You're not the only one studying for college".
"Whatever. So how's Spain?" I had to change the subject.
Luckily it worked!
Kathy went into details of how exciting her trip had been and i envied her. Just then there was a loud crash coming from the Donnovan's house. Then i heard pip yell..
"Party unlit!"
Soon a loud music blared. What was going on?
Kathy sprang up from the bed going to look out my room's window. Too bad for me my room was overlooking Lucas'. Surprise there right? God i hated it.
I went to join Kathy and caught sight of Lucas and Pip running around with a bottle of champagne. Clear liquid guzzling out of the bottle. That champagne looked really expensive. There were other kids in the house downstairs. When the hell had the party started? I had no idea.
"Is that them!" Kathy squealed.
I immediately put my hand over her mouth. Too late. The boys heard her. They came over to the window. Smirk on their faces.
" Hey Indi!" Pip called waving.
I glared at him.
He grinned and turned to Lucas. "She's totally stalking us".
What the hell?
"Common love. I know we're hot but stalking really is going overboard". Lucas said.
Kathy had no idea what was going on but she immediately had my back. That was why i loved her.
"Hey assholes!" She called. "We weren't stalking you!"
"Uh come on skinny. We were only kidding". Pip called.
Sure Kathy was skinny. But she was also stunningly beautiful with her blonde waves.
"Did he just call me skinny?" Kathy asked dumbly, turning to me.
"Sure did". I said, a little relieved that i wasn't the only one being taunted by the boys.
"The name's Kathy i***t!" She called back to pip.
"Common skinny i know you were just dying to introduce yourself but there are better ways of doing it. Though i never asked for your name".
Kathy flushed to the root of her hair.
"Can you believe that?" She said, turning to me.
"Totally. See what i was talking about?"
"You're right. They're assholes!"
She quickly closed my window.
"Don't worry". I said. "We'll get them back".
A genius plan was already forming in my mind. Kathy stared at me for a while. Then she grinned from ear to ear.
"I love it when you're like this".
