Prologue
Kael's POV
“Where the hell is Joe!?” I snapped for the tenth time today, slamming my hand on the table. My right-hand man, Raymond, flinched so hard that he almost fell.
“We're trying to find him, alpha.” He stuttered and I ran my hand through my hair in frustration as he bowed in guilt.
“It's been months! Months since he escaped. And you let him live peacefully?” I asked in anger as I stood up and the entire hall went silent.
“He keeps changing locations, Alpha. Before we make it to where he is, he's already gone. We're really trying our best—”
“I don't care what you need to do. Who you need to take hostage, bring me Joe, dead or alive.” I spat with authority and the guards chorused a loud “yes, alpha!” as they made their way out of my chambers.
“That f*****g prick.” I hissed as I collapsed into my chair, running my hand through my hair again. “If he thinks I'll actually let him get away with killing my father then he's so mistaken. I'll make him suffer, make him regret—”
“Alpha, I think—”
“What is it!?” I snapped when Raymond approached me and he flinched. “f**k, I'm sorry. I'm just too triggered right now. What is it?”
He was too timid sometimes that I wondered if he was actually an omega pretending to be a beta. Not like it mattered anyway.
“I found a way to get you to Joe.” He said as he passed his tablet to me and I raised a brow when I saw a gorgeous girl on the screen.
“What has she got to do with Joe?” I asked, my finger tracing her face unconsciously and he leaned down to whisper.
“She is Joe's daughter.”
The moment he said those words, my blood ran cold.
“Joe has a daughter?” I asked with wide eyes as I turned to Ray and he nodded immediately. “How did I never find out? How come no one knows about this?”
“Because she's been abroad all her life. Joe is trying to protect his little omega from the dangerous things he's involved in. But I'm sure she's also been assisting him in his activities abroad.” He explained and my gaze returned to her face.
She was beautiful. An actual work of art. Too bad she had to be that murderer’s daughter.
“Just when I thought you didn't have a weakness.” I whispered, my lips curling into a grin and Raymond glanced at me.
“She will be returning to the country in about three hours. Should we follow her to get Joe's location?” He asked as he took the tablet away from me and I finally snapped out of my reverie.
“No. I want her here.” I said and Raymond raised a brow at me. “I don't just want to kill Joe. I want to see him suffer. To torment and torture him until he begs for his life. What better to do than to kidnap the little omega?”
“That is very smart, alpha.” He nodded in agreement and I could feel my wolf charging inside of me. We have waited for revenge for years for whoever killed my father.
When I found out that it was Joe who killed my father, I spent the last few months tracking him down. But now, victory was in my hands.
“What airport is she dropping off at? Why don't we show her where she actually belongs?” I asked as I got up, buttoning up my tuxedo and he returned his attention to the screen.
Time to get my little mouse and put her where she needs to be until I get the huge rat myself.
I drove down the road with an urgency that made me feel alive. I didn't know if I was excited that I would finally be getting Joe where I want him, or if I was excited to meet my little captive.
Her face… it burned in my mind like a memory. She was undoubtedly beautiful and I wanted to have fun breaking her while her father watched and begged and cried for mercy.
The car skidded to a stop a few meters away from the airport and then, I waited. Minutes turned into hours and just when I was about to give up, I saw her familiar figure walk out of the airport.
Fuck, she was even prettier in person.
I watched her get into a taxi and even though I should have just grabbed her there and then, I followed her. I tried not to seem suspicious as I followed the taxi and then stopped at a safe distance when it stopped.
She actually stopped at a remote area. She was definitely involved in the crazy things her father was into. When the taxi drove away, she stood by the side of the road, probably waiting for her dad to come pick her up.
That was my cue to act. I snuck up to her and before she could turn, my hand pressed a handkerchief over her face, relishing how she struggled in my arms.
And then she passed out.
I dragged her with me back to the car and made her comfortable in the back seat before getting back into the driver's seat.
I waited for whoever she called to show up. But I was disappointed when I saw it was just another cab driver. I finally left, driving back to the palace while my eyes kept going to her figure in the mirror.
She looked like she was in her mid-twenties, yet she was still so fragile. Probably innocent and untainted.
I couldn't wait to break all that and make her see what true danger actually felt like.
The car came to a stop as the gates slammed closed behind it, and I picked her up in my arms, taking her into the palace with me.
“You found her.” Raymond said as he followed me to the guest room and I placed her there. “What are you going to do with her?”
“That is for me to decide, Raymond.” I said with a dismissive wave. “Stay alert in case Joe shows up or calls. You can leave.”
With a nod, he left the room and I sat by the bed, watching her peaceful figure sleep. My wolf was uncomfortable inside of me just at the sight of her.
The moment I touched her, my palm burned. Not with burning flames but with a heat that came from inside me.
I wanted her already and she was supposed to be my tool for revenge. What the f**k is happening?
