CHAPTER SIXTEEN Eva grabbed Madden, turning him toward her. He was semi-responsive, his arms heavy at his sides. “Do you regret your actions?” “Not a day goes by I don’t.” “Maybe your feelings are why you’re different. Because you do regret the actions leading youhere.” Madden looked into her eyes, his gaze troubled. Eva imagined she could see right into his soul, laid bare for her judgment, all his deeds and misdeeds on trial. “I love you,” she said, her voice thick with emotion. This did the trick, snapping him out of his morose state. His smile was full of remorse.
