CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
“Time to move out,” Wolverton decided. “Let's find the way down.”
Eva rose, expectant. She looked at Madden and he smiled back, the smile not moving beyond his lips. It was grim. She knew this could be a one-way trip. Madden had accepted the truth long ago. What this would do to him she had no idea.
Eva crossed the room to Swanson. He considered her as she approached.
“If there is anything I can do from this side, I will make sure it happens.”
The thud of helicopter blades began to sound amidst the thunder. “My ride’s here. Stay safe, Director Scott. Don’t do anything… unusually crazy.”
Eva pulled him close, kissing his cheek. “You look after the earth. I expect it in good working order when I return.”
“You find your daughter. I expect to meet her when you return.
