Chapter 5

991 Words
Harry was ready to leave the basement for the safehouse in no time. While he was finishing his packing process, the banging on the titanium door got louder and louder. He now wished that he had a grenade or something to throw outside at the zombies and kill them. Harry picked up a pistol, a rifle and the only SCAR SMG he had. The SCAR was customized a lot and now it is capable of firing bullets similar to those used in shotguns at the rate of two bullets per second. It also featured an extra-long magazine that holds more than a hundred bullets. Harry now looked at himself in the giant mirror behind him. He looked like he just came out of a shooting game. He glanced around and scanned the room for anything else he might need. He glanced at the CCTV monitor that showed the front of the titanium door. He could see approximately twenty zombies out there, with half of them banging on the door. He looked away and revised his plan. The tunnel was around five kilometres long, and it was divided by ten heavy-duty, titanium doors. Each of the doors can be opened only with a passcode that he knows. Each segment is five hundred meters long. Just before he picked up the walkie-talkie to inform the Army about his flight, the titanium door cracked in the middle and broke so suddenly that Harry was taken aback with surprise. Instantly, he picked up his SCAR and started to do a brushfire at the zombies that had begun to enter the room. Harry went backwards as fast as he could and typed in the passcode for the tunnel door. The doors opened and Harry went through, still firing at the zombies. The zombies came closer to Harry no matter how many shots they got fired with into their bodies. Harry was astonished to see them not dying or at least knockout. He turned around and ran the first five hundred meters as fast as he could. His backpacks, however, which weighed a lot, were not helping. While running, Harry was struck with the idea of how to knock out the zombies. He remembered watching it in a movie. Headshots. Even though he had no idea whether the method would work, he turned around and started to jog backwards and firing at the zombie’s heads at the same time. As he reached the first door, he had to put down his SCAR in order to write the passcode on the keypad. As he typed in the code, the zombies were coming closer to him. The doors opened after the code was confirmed, and Harry rushed in. He had no time to close the door as the zombies were too close, so he just continued running while firing at the heads. At the fourth door, Harry managed to evade all the zombies by shutting the door on their faces. One zombie was really close and unfortunately had his hand stuck when the door shut. Harry still thought it’s not safe as there was a gap between the door and the wall so he ran again. When he reached the final door, he could see that there was no zombie behind him and he vividly remembered that all the ten doors were safely locked. However, the doors wouldn’t keep the zombies away. He needed to get away from there fast. Only one person stays as a guard in the safehouse. When Harry opened the door into the safehouse, Sergeant Chris was delighted to see him. However, his delight became terror once he knew the reason Harry was here. He quickly called in some of the safehouse members and all of them came a few minutes later. Harry was still in shock, so he sat down and tried to calm himself. Suddenly, his phone rang and he took it out and saw that Smith was calling. ‘Hello?’ Harry asked. ‘Hello, Jesus Christ! Harry! You alright? I heard that there had been a lot of attacks in America.’ Smith said in an alarmed voice. ‘I’m fine now, I'm in the safehouse. Don’t worry.’ Harry replied. He also explained that his house was under full control of zombies right now. ‘Anyways, I need some help. We need you to come back to Geneva right now. It's urgent.’ said Smith. Harry was befuddled. ‘And how am I supposed to do that? There’s no way I can travel to Europe in this situation, it’s outright suicide.’ Harry said. ‘I know, I know. To make matters worse, the military’s not providing air transport for you also. But I’ve got a plan to make you come here.” Smith explained. “It’s simple enough. The only commercial airline still operating now is Malaysia Airlines, Etihad Airways, and Lufthansa. My plan is that you take a Malaysia Airlines to Kuala Lumpur, and take a Lufthansa from there to Switzerland.’ Smith explained more. ‘That’s pretty complicated. When does the flight leave?’ Harry asked. Clearly, he had agreed to help his old buddy. ‘It leaves tomorrow at 1340 hours from JFK International.’ Smith answered. ‘What?! I have to go to New York?!’ Harry exclaimed. ‘For good reason. I would have sent you to Atlanta but conditions are worse there. Just bring some weapons with you and you’ll be fine. If you see any zombies on the way, shoot to the heads. It’s the only way you can stop them. Alright I’ll see you later buddy. If you have any trouble just ring me up, okay? Bye.’ Smith said and hung up. Harry just stood there, not knowing what to do.
