Chapter 7

Harry was still puzzled as though why Smith needed his help so badly. He had tried to call Smith several times but to no avail. Smith rarely put other people’s lives at risk unless it was absolutely necessary. However, Smith’s offer was something that Harry had to look forward to as he really needed to escape from the safehouse. The zombies in the tunnel could be there at any time. Together with all the people there, Harry came up with a plan to go to New York safely and board the plane. They knew it was a dangerous mission but they were determined that they would make it. On the upside, the team was packed with soldiers who were trained specially for this kind of situation. This team was trained for any problem that would require the use of the safehouse. On the downside, neither of them had any idea how many zombies are roaming the streets out there. Later that day, the team was finally ready to move together to their first stop, a military base that had some safer transportations. The only transportation they had now was a few open-hooded jeeps which are, to general agreement, not safe at all. The team’s target was to grab a fighter jet and deliver Harry straight to JFK. The team grabbed their weapons and walked out to the door. Harry picked up his bags and aimed his SCAR at ready. Once Sergeant Chris opened the door, the team rushed out into the street just outside. Thankfully, there was no zombie there. Everyone proceeded to move towards the four jeeps that were parked opposite the building. Harry kept looking around for any signs of movement. Once, he almost shot towards a bush because it rattled suddenly, but it turned out that it was just a cat. Harry sighed with relief. He couldn’t afford to make a single noise. It would attract the zombies. The team reached the jeeps and climbed in, putting Harry in the middle o that he would be safe. Two officers sat beside Harry, and one clambered to the metal bar above him. The three jeeps started rolling towards their destination. One thing was bad; the engines were really noisy. Everyone now realized that this trip wouldn’t be complete without a few shots of bullets. True to their words, as they rounded the first corner, a pack of zombies came running towards them. It was not too many and the majority of them got either shot or hit by the jeeps. They didn’t stop to kill every single one of them as time was crucial, and as they turned onto another street, two or three zombies were still running to try and catch them. Harry was sitting in his place, frozen. He was a bit terrified and fear was coming inside him. This journey will be a long one. After an hour and dozens of shot zombies, they reached a military base near Maryland. The team was allowed in. To their disappointment, there was no fighter jets or aircrafts available. Even with discussions with the Post Commander there, they didn’t get any permission to borrow an aircraft. Harry looked around the field. There were numerous military vehicles spread around. Suddenly, he paused and smiled. The next thing he knew, he was clambering into an army tank. The sergeant had allowed them to take three tanks with the condition that they wouldn’t use any of the weapons available on the tank. The team was more than happy to have them and they took it immediately. The plan was to travel to the next military base which was around twenty-three kilometres from there. Harry suggested that they go straight to JFK in the tanks but the team said no because it would be too slow. They wasted no more time there. As the team said their thanks and bid goodbye, the tanks were already rolling out onto the streets. Harry clambered into one and was pretty sure that the journey would be easy and safe. An officer opened the hatch and stood with his head and his machine g*n out. His plan was that if any zombie didn’t get squashed by the tank, he would settle the job. This officer was also in a good mood. However, on their first turn, things went down immediately. Harry looked out to see if it was zombies but what he saw was ridiculous. There were many cars parked on both sides of the street, leaving no room for the tanks to go through. Harry smiled. This is going to be fun, he thought.
